Hey Mick,
Happy belated B-Day.
I won't be back on my boat until next weekend either.

These pics were from last night. I had to do it- I laid out where the back to back seats would be located:D And yes, while sitting on the bucket I was making vroom, vroom sounds:p

A view from the drivers seat! Vroom, Vroom...

Donkey- I forgot to ask- what did you use for your windshield?

All painted??? Where are the pics???

I am probably more constrained as far as time is concerned and so I haven't many pictures of the process. I think I will take some pics once it is all finished. I took the windshield off a 1989 Sea Ray, I believe it was. It was about 4 inches wider than the platform that existed on the boat. Getting this installed probably took up most of my time.

I built a frame out of pressure treated 2x4s, cut several angles into them to match the existing body lines. I then put about 4 sheets of glass over them. I used some Bondo Jelly to fill in and smooth out the new platform. I took a lot of sanding and refilling to get it smooth, and waiting, waiting, waiting for the jelly to cure...such a pain. Anyhow, I have a nice windshield now. I also took the complete top with a bimini from the same Sea Ray (in red too) and installed that on my boat as well. The only portion that doesn't fit is in the rearmost portion but I don't plan on using that.

Re: 1962 Arkansas Traveler restoration

Got some time on the boat tonight. I got all the sticky stuff off the center of the bow. I started with paint thinner and a scraper. That pretty much got me know where so I went with the orbital and a couple pieces of 80 grit. That seemed to work alot quicker. I am going to have to do some filler work along this area too. I guess over the years with that sand paper stuff that was on there the paint along the edges started to chip and come up in some areas.

I'm about to start a round of filler to hit some areas again and all of the other small things I missed.

And to help get me through- a little mix:D

Yeh- the mix helped quite a bit to relieve some stress from our game. 4-3 lead in the last inning against one of the best teams in the area, we get 2 outs on them(one more out and it's over!), then they hit two doubles in a row to tie it up, and then score 4 in extra innings for the win. I have no voice today!

That bikini blue looks great but I am still thinking ocean blue because it is a deeper blue which I like.

I didn't get to the filler last night- I still had some sanding to do where the sticky stuff was- plus I was beat. Tonight I'm going out again and need to finish up some sanding before I get to the filler.

Re: 1962 Arkansas Traveler restoration

Sorry I haven't been around in a couple days. I was on
the boat Thursday night and finally got off all the silicone from around the windshield. I also got everything sanded too and started my final round of filler.

I had intentions of getting on the boat last night too-- but I fell asleep right after I put my daughter to bed, woke up at 12:30, and went right back to bed.

I went and ordered my paint today and picked up more primer from the boat place. I should be done with filler and sanding tonight! Thank god- it's getting annoying sanding on the top where it's not just flat- it takes alot longer.

I have some pics on photobucket but there nothing special other than filler.

Re: 1962 Arkansas Traveler restoration

Well here are some pics from a couple nights ago during one of my rounds of filler(I forget what I'm at now for the top).

And heres from tonight. I got another round of filler, then sanded, then more small areas of filler. Then I got to my final sanding grit of 150. I did the whole front of the boat at 150 grit- then I saw a couple more areas I need to hit again with filler!

So I'm basically there- I need to finish the sides and back of the boat with 150, then go with a fine tooth comb and fill small areas, then sand a final time before I prime. I have work to do this week for school so I am hopefully looking at wrapping up filler and sanding Friday and then start primer on Saturday!

Here's some of the sanding pics from tonight. You get a ton of dust from the 150 grit sanding!

After she was all wiped down- her front at this point is 98% ready for primer!
