Mick,

I found the 3M filler you told me about. Its online but I'd rather not pay the hazard charge and shipping. Did you find yours locally at a chain store? Whic one? AutoZone does not have it here. I hope I can get it here.

Re: 1962 Arkansas Traveler restoration

FINALLY!!! I'm back out on the boat tonight! It was a rough week last week with work, baseball, and family.

Tonight I'm just about to start glassing and reinforcing the underside of the cap. I started by sanding down the glass, vacuumed, then acetoned. Now I have everything laid out and about to glass.

I just kept the supports that were there and I will be adding a few 2"x2"'s in between for additional supports.

I'll post pics later or tomorrow.

Glad to be back!

Murphy was locked up all weekend! I threw him out in the rain when I started though, so who knows where he will show up next:eek:

Well, tonight I got the sanding done and the glassing. I went at it for 5 hours and got 95% of the glassing done on the underside of the cap. It wasn't the prettiest job- but it will never be seen:D Next will be to finish up the glassing and head to the boat store for my electrical supplies.

I also included a video just to update everyone on where I'm at in the project.

Here are the pics.

Everything all prepped and ready for poly- I didn't miss working with glass and poly!

All glassed- well 95% glassed- I just have to glass the 3/8th ply where the wheel and gauges will go and the ply on the passenger side.

In this pic you can see the 2X2 additional supports I added since the cap needs to be walked on to fill the tank- figured I'd add the extra supports while she's flipped over

Hey Mick,
Glad to See you got some time on the boat.
I think it's funny, you are going from red to blue and I'm going to go from blue to red. Just struck me as funny.
Keep plugging.

Wow! A SkiJack! A neighbor had one - same setup - '61 Starflite - my favorite Evinrude cowl! We had the 15' AT Utility with the '61 Lark.

You're really doing a great job...when you're finished you'll have something to really be proud of!

Mick,

Looking good. I just went through all your videos again. Great stuff! I love original looking restorations. She's gonna look like we just went back 50 years and rolled her out of the showroom.:D

I'll be coming back and reviewing them for tips when I finally get some time on mine.

Re: 1962 Arkansas Traveler restoration

Thanks guys for all your thoughts and comments! Baseball has really slowed me down! Then when I figured I'd have above 4 day weekend to get the underside finished- I end up doing 7 yards of mulch, aerating and overseeding my yard, etc...... You all knowhowit goes!

Tonight I'm going out to finish the fiberglassing on the underside. Tomorrow after baseball I hope to get to the boat place to get my electrical supplies and a gas gauge that is period to my ammeter. Maybe I'll get the trailer too if my neighbor is around cause we haveto do the title for the old trailer yet.

Re: 1962 Arkansas Traveler restoration

Well, here is the update. I got the wood backing on the dashes glassed in tonight. The only thing that has to be done yet on the bottom is I need to add some glass to all the miscellaneous holes. So when I fill everything the filler is supported.

I plan on going to the boat place tomorrow to get all my electrical stuff.

Here are the pics and a video update
The tarp dividing the garage is down and I needed to move things around, like my woodpile so I could get at my Z to cut the grass.

Re: 1962 Arkansas Traveler restoration

Well all my goodies came in mid week but since I have been busy I was not able to pick them up till this morning. I originally ordered the rack steering system but it turns out it is to long(well it fits but the guy at the boat place doesn't like how much the cable has to bend to make the turn) so he is returning it and getting me the rotary system instead.

What is the difference between the rotary and rack systems?

Here is the link to the wheel I'm ordering. Its the only one I could find that looks older and is stainless.

Here are the other goodies I picked up already today
The gauges. I went with new instead of trying to find a gas gauge to match my amp meter- it was impossible to find one that matched. So now I have two that match. I'm just going with a gas gauge and amp gauge because 1. I don't have much room in the dash, and 2. I planned on using a gps to find my speed anyways. I really like these gauges because of the chrome bezel, the blue in them will match my paint, and they are made in the USA.

The telescoping stern light. I really like the older style of light- it should match the period/age of the boat.
100_1299.jpg
[/IMG]

1. The perko pole holders- made in the usa
2. wire connectors, fuses, fuse block
3. bow light- this is period of the boat at around 1963-64
4. light switch- mine still worked but was pitted
5. horn button- again, mine still worked but was pitted
6. 12 volt plug

I will have time to work on the boat the next 3 nights so I will begin glassing all the rub rail holes and then i will begin on the electrical. It seems I just have to mount the block somewhere, and then run my wires off that to where they need to go I guess.

Thanks for looking:D

Hey Mick looks like you got some good toys! It looks like we have the same gauges by the way, is that the Chesapeake series? Glad you have a few days to work on the boat, I'm looking forward to seeing your progress!
