Hey Mick,
Don't let it get you down. Just plug away and it will get done. I will be looking forward to seeing the paint on that old jewel.
Keep it moving.

Re: 1962 Arkansas Traveler restoration

Yeh, I know. Thanks for the up-lifting comments guys! It actually got worse today at practice when I found out we have late practice from 6-9 for the entire month of March:mad:

That means less time with the wife and kids and less time on the boat:confused:

I am actually going to be changing the top color from pettit read to pettit Ocean Blue:D It is going to be alot better my wife and I think than the red.
I will try to upload the color chart so you can see the color.

Can't upload the pdf color chart

Best I can do is give you the link
http://www.pettitpaint.com/catalog_browse.asp?ictNbr=1

1. Click on the color chart link on the left and "open pdf"
2. It is the topside paint Ocean Blue- 3248!

That Petit Ocean Blue is one Bad A** of a color..still retro and easier on the eyes...Great Choice Mick. (and the Mrs):D

Arch- Yeh, now that is an idea. 40-50 pairs of extra hands would get this project wrapped up pretty quick:D hhhhmmmm:rolleyes:

Thanks Pauly and Arch on the color choice. The more I was thinking about it, I wanted the red because it was original. But then I started looking at that blue and just like you said Pauly- it was still retro, but it has something real cool about it- can't explain it? So I showed the wife the whole color list and asked her which one she liked best and she picked out the ocean blue hands down- DONE!

Hopefully it looks as good one as it does in the 1" color swatch.

I called Pettit to see if I could get bigger samples and all they have is the 1" jobs. I said to the guy- "that may be something you want to look into doing."

Ezombee- Nice! Is that pettit ocean blue?? I was wandering what it would look like? That's awesome, I like it!

If it is pettit, how is it holding up?

Thanks

It is Petit Easypoxy Ocean Blue and Mist Gray. Can't really comment on how it's holding up as it hasn't left my garage :p. It does seem harder than Rustoleum to me.

That's awesome! PA has good taste!
Thanks for the info. I can't wait to get to that point.

What did you use to apply it? I read alot of reviews where people just rolled it on and didn't tip it. What did you do?

Paint brush and a foam roller. Painted it like you'd paint your living room. Didn't tip.

When I painted the boat it was still really cold out. I only had small space heaters so my garage was probably only around 60. The boat itself was pretty cold. At that time I swear you could have applied it with a push broom and it would have laid down perfectly. You DO have to watch for runs though. I mean REALLY keep and eye out for them.

I just painted my consoles this weekend. It's warmer out and I now have a 240v heater in my garage so it was at least 70. I noticed that the bubbles put in from the foam roller weren't popping and laying down quite as easily. However, a quick pass (and I mean quick) with the roller would knock 'em down and not allow new ones to pick up. Came out perfect.

Have I mentioned that the blue on my boat is ONE COAT? :)

Dis you mean one pass with the brush to knock down the bubbles?

I believe you about the ease of application! Pretty much every review I've read on the easypoxy said the same thing.

I just picked up the primer(1 qt) and gloss white(2qts.) now:)

Re: 1962 Arkansas Traveler restoration

I used the roll and tip method on my boat 3 years ago. I used Interlux Brightsides. Just don't load your roller too much when rolling out your coats. I used a ton of foam rollers. They were 4" ones. I did a small area at a time then tipped lightly with a brush to knock down the bubbles. I'm actually going to do mine again this year, not because I have to but I know what mistakes I made the first time. Plus I want to change up the colour a tad. Can't wait to see your boat painted. Mine is ocean blue as well.

Hey Mick,
My personnel preference is red, red, and more red, but thats why they make so many colors we all have are favorites.
I think the boat will look great. ezmobee's boat sure did turn out great and I'm sure your's will too.
Good luck with the painting.

Re: 1962 Arkansas Traveler restoration

Sorry Bob! I too was a little upset about the red- I liked it as well. But the red that pettit has it not the deep red I would want like what is on there now.

So I started thinking about a classic looking color and my wife and I looked at the ocean blue and said- well what about this color. We both agreed so that was the end of the story.

I'm hoping that tonight I get the final sanding done. Then vacuum the garage rafters, lights, and anything else that has collected dust over the past months.

Then prime on Friday night, and paint Saturday and Sunday to finish up the bottom of the boat. Then I will move that out of the garage and move the cap in to start work on that

Can't wait to see paint on it Mick! Blue will be an easier color by the way, deep reds are hard to get, reds are very transparent and usually require several coats. I have 4 coats of red and only 2 coats of sliver on mine. If you look close you can still see some light spots in the red, but the silver is fully covered.

By the way are we ever going to get to see some work on the trailer? All of this work on the boat is getting really boring Mick..........:D:D
