I really appreciate everyones comments. I promise I'll be getting back on the BF very soon to do the final FINISHING TOUCHES!!! Sorry if the Bus Pics don't classify as Boat Porn but that's all I got right now.

The other project fits right in Mike, and I love the interior of the bug van. That sewing machine is really paying off well, I am gonna be at that stage of my Lone Star soon. I have heated the garage to finish the twin 35's, and then I will be moving to interior, steering, and yes way more $$ than I should be spending. You really do nice work Mike!

My Recommendations on how to fabricate Decks, Stringers and Transoms. These drawings are based on my experiences and the vast amount of information I have gleaned from all the Pros and Skilled Amateurs and their projects here on the Forum. These are NOT set in stone, only Recommendations. It's your boat, so you can do as you see fit.

Decks - The new Araucao Plywood is Really Good stuff. I recommend it now for Deck, Stringers and Transoms.

Transoms(updated 7-18-2012)

Note: When using screws as clamps, it's best to predrill the holes a bit oversiized on one piece of the transom. This keeps the piece from catching the screw threads and allows the other piece to be drawn up tight against the pre-drilled piece.

Pics of clamps I recommend for clamping an Outboard Style Transom when the top cap of the boat has been removed. I modified the construction of them just a bit using bolts instead of all thread. Takes a bit longer to build em but I like em better. Doing it this way I can use my 3/8" air drive ratchet to tighten em down which make is a lot faster to clamp em down. You need to be as fast as possible when you are using that much PB. Don't want it to set up on you before you get it clamped in place. Speed is of the essence!!!!:D

Great write up. This will help a lot on my rebuild. Sorry for the newbie question but what exactly is PB and PL adhesive that you are referring to for the stringer to hull attachment?

Thank you.

Since we have some newcomers to the hobby, and do not know what Peanut Butter is, I am posting my old video on how to make it.

In case anyone's interested, I have revised the Stringer Layup schedule to be in line with recent investigations and consultations with iBoats Members and MFG's. Check it out if you are so inclined, by clicking the first link in my signature.

Thanks for posting this WoodonGlass. I have a few follow-up question.

Would this apply for both polyester and epoxy resin? I'm planning on using epoxy.

Is the 1708 a specific weight, or are there choices. And if there are choices, which weight should I use? I read somewhere that you should measure the thickness of the old lay-up and then try to approximate. Does that sound right? If so, the old lay-up is pretty thin, could easily be only two or three layers.

Thanks!!

Definitely not going to uncap it............... as there is no motorbox.
Cofooter, You really should start your own thread for your boat. It's very confusing when all of your posts about your boat are in someone else's thread.

No it doesn't exactly apply to epoxy, you don't use CSM or 1708 w/ Epoxy.... Many consider epoxy an unnecessary expense, other's feel it's a 'better' choice. Many (most?) older boats in need of an overhaul are polyester resin & glass, so you can put it back together w/ the same. Vinylester & epoxy are also options. But if you use vinyl or epoxy, you'll need to stay w/ that product family as polyester resins won't bond very well to it.

You need to decide for yourself how you want to tear your boat apart & how you want to put it back together. We can only help, remotely, via the internet. You can see & touch your boat, and ultimately are responsible for how it's rehab'd.

Hence my comment after the rest of your questions:

WOG & others will help answer any questions about you boat, your particular setup & needs if you'll start a thread about your boat, it's condition/problems & your concerns. And pix make helping much easier. Use photobucket...

There is a wealth of info available @iboats, in both people & data. Your question about epoxy, 1708 & etc have been discussed extensively in multiple threads about just those topics, as well as in many many threads....

Back to WOG's thread:
Mike,
Great updated graphics & details, thanks!

What he said^^^. Epoxy only needs cloth. 2 layers of 17 oz is what I'd Recommend. Epoxy inherently is stronger than Poly and the 1700 biaxial cloth is significantly stronger than the old style woven roving glass. If you want the final to be smooth with no bleed thru of the 17 oz cloth pattern then us 6 oz cloth as your final layer. If you are using epoxy due to working inside and the Odor issue then by all means use it. But your expense will be significantly higher.

The BF is still Wearing Her Winter Clothes so, Until It warms up I've been working on my Shop and getting All the "Honey Do's" under control. My Daughter brought the Grandkids over this week for "Spring Break" and we Started on Re-Upholstering her $10 Thrift Store Wing Back Chair. I Thought I was going to get a few days off but, problems @ work prevented that and the weather was a bit chilly to work in the shop so we didn't get it done but we made a dent on it. Even though it's not Boat related here's some pics...

Here's what we started with...

ChairStart.jpg

Here's where we got after about 8 hrs of work.

See, now you are trying to get me into trouble...the Admiral see's this kind of awesome quality work on on exactly the type of chairs she wants for the living room and next thing I know, she's going to go out and buy some, then force me to learn how to use my new sewing machine and reupholster them for her...

Theoretically of course...

Beautiful work, seenyor!

I never thought trying to learn to upholster my own boat seats would lead to this. I must admit I like to do upholstery but I'd rather be on the lake. My daughter really caught on to the upholstery and liked it alot. Like Father Like Daughter. She wants to find an Ottoman and do it next.

You guys might get a kick out of this...
