I'm thinkin, (yeah I KNOW that could be a Problem) that the Worst case scenario, Price wise would be...

1.) Total Deck Replacement = 6 Sheets of Plywood and My Formula treatment finished off with the Rustoleum Paint. $500 No Epoxy.
2.) Carpet = $400
3.) All new Upholstery $300 ( I know a Guy!!!)
4,) Trailer Maintenance and Paint $200
5.) Motor Tune up and Servicing $500
6.) Toon Clean-UP and Paint $300
7.) Bimini Recover $50 ( I know a Guy)
8.) Winter Cover $200 (That Same Guy)
9.) Miscellaneous expenses (electrical, etc...)$500
Sooo I'm Guess-ti-Mating that if she's really bad a 3 thousand dollar bill could bring her back to looking pretty snazzy. That's $5,000 for a like new 24ft Pontoon boat. I think that would be a pretty good investment. Now...If I can just get those Son's of mine to do ALL the hard work and let me be the BOSS!!!!

I did some 3rd party comparison......using 5k as a max $$ price. Seems there isnt anything out there in that price range with the list of all new you stated and motor combo. The draw back is time.....but other than that I think its a good buy. there are some for 5k, but need the same things, floor, upholstery, and small motors on them.....

We have looked at pontoons the last several years, you definitely want at lease a 100 hp motor for that size of boat. other wise it will be a bowling shoe on the water.
the biggest reason I haven't gotten one yet is the space they take up......I couldn't get one on my yard and it would pain me to have to pay to store it every month..

The only other thing that compairs in a family freindly/ all together type are the deck boats. We almost pulled the trigger in a hurricane last year, but didnt due to the space thing again.

There is my 2 cents.......

On your list, why painting the 'toons?

You can, but clean and protect would be less prep and less money. Unless they are painted now...

Clean the Toons to Shine em up and PAINT the Panels on the Railings!!! Sorry for the confusion!!!

I May have discovered a HicCup!! I drive a little Toyota Tacoma with the OffRoad Package. NOT a 4X just a Pre-Runner. Total Towing Capabilities listed @ 3500 lbs. Closest I can figure the boat, motor and trailer will come in right at 3,200 lbs. That's cutting it real close.

What do you guys think. Will my little V6 Tacoma Pull the Big Honking 24ft Pontoon out of the lake and up the ramp????!!!!!

Ahhh, now I see said the blind fella....

My tow vehicle is supposed to be capable off towing 3500lbs, per Ford w the installed trans/oil coolers, but I didn't care for an as towed 2500lb+/- load. I towed it for about 4.5hrs, and except for perfectly flat level road, I didn't care for it, NOT at all. A wide range of rain showers certainly didn't help.

Not much help for a Pre-Runner, but 3200 of a 3500lb max could be doable in ideal conditions..... How steep is the ramp you'll likely use? Until you retire, where are you keeping the Toon after it's rehab? Near the lake storage? Towing it less then 5miles to a decent ramp would be alright I suspect..

BTW: Don't you get a fair amount of wind out your way and around your favorite waterway?

Yeah, LOTS of wind!!! Ramp is not all that steep and has traction ridges. But, It's a fairly hilly drive to the lake. When I go do the inspection I may ask the guy if I can do a test tow!!!

I probably should have mentioned brakes too... Near max towable is likely to be hard on brakes. What's Oklahoma's rules for dual axle trailers or 3000# loads?

In some going to a dual axle requires trailer brakes, as do loads over a certain weight.

Looks like over 3000#'s requires trailer brakes in Okie land:

But hey, you can triple tow

I believe that Merc is a 1968 vintage. Good looking rig all around. You could put all of Canada on that boat.

When the Admiral and I first started looking at boats we checked out a 24 foot tracker party barge. All I could think about when we first saw it was " This thing is bigger than my house." At least that's what it looked like on the trailer. We decided on a 20 foot bow rider instead, and every now and again we both comment on how the pontoon would have been nice to have so the whole fam damily could be on the lake on one boat.

Hey WoG. I just spent most of the day going through your thread. MAN, for a dumb Ole Okie, you're a man of many talents. You did a sweet job on the boat & your upholstery work is second to none. Then there is the saw dust skills... Thanks for the informative & entertaining thread. Happy New Year!
