Re: 1959? 18' Lund runabout restore

Rained most of last weekend so I was pretty much stuck in the shop. I did get one seat base & the splash well straight & painted. Tried to keep it close to the original?

My brother helped me flip the boat yesterday so I can work on getting the bottom ready for paint.

Finally in primer. Still wet from sanding in the picture. Hope to paint the bottom this week?

Some of the chrome that cleaned up pretty good. Still need to do the light but it should clean up nice too.

We have bottom paint. Not able to get the Sea Sprite Green paint but did find one close to it. Finish polishing the upper sides them I can flip her back over. Will be nice to get her right side up again!

Buffed the paint last night & took a picture while it was outside for a bath. Got a little dark & the boat was still wet & still dirty so it is a crappy picture but it is proof that I do actually have paint!

Not just proof of paint.

Great paint! The color looks great w/ the bare aluminum above it!

Nicely done!

jbcurt00,
My wifes first words when she saw it painted were "your painting it that color". I feel much better now that you like the color. Thank you!

After patching many holes in the swiss cheese that was the transom, I finally have it painted. I'm not sure what you call it, but there was a square aluminum plate riveted to the outside of the transom where the motor mounts, for extra support I assume? I took that plate off & hope to replace it with a non painted aluminum one -over the paint.
Will I have any issues with corrosion putting a bare aluminum plate over the paint?

Started patching the extra holes on the topside Thursday afternoon & finished it Friday afternoon. I put thin aluminum plates under the bigger holes then made a patch for them & tape under the smaller ones then filled them with all with JB Weld. Seemed to work well.

Spent most of yesterday getting the topside ready for paint. Lot of sanding & a lot of cleaning but I think its ready. Wanted to have it in primer yesterday but it just didnt happen. Hope to have that done today.

I did find one spot of the original green paint under a snap that I forgot to remove when I stipped the paint. I think I got lucky & picked a green that is very close to the original color? Kind of a crappy picture but it is at the end of the crappy looking windshield bracket.

The windshield for the boat is cracked from top to bottom right down the center so I will need a different one. Anyone know if a glass company can make something like that?

Older (period correct) windshields for this type of rig are difficult to find in good condition (and very pricy when you do)....

A couple of folks have fabbed up new ones and done a great job... I know andrew (andgott) fabbed up a new one on his Lake N' Sea Rebuild and I am thinking sphelps may have done so as well on his MFG...

By the way, your paint job looks fantastic... I like the color and it looks like you got a great finish - did you spray?

+1 on the color, I really like that green and it looks great with the bare aluminum.

Re: 1959? 18' Lund runabout restore

Thanks for the comments on the paint color guys. My wife is still not warming up to it much but I like it.
The paint was spayed with PPG products. One coat of etch primer, two coats of sandable primer, three coats of paint, & three coats of clear. The prep work seemed to take forever so I am glad that part of the painting is done!

Great tutorial jb. I will have to give that a shot!
