Once you get it started it will pull your board through by itself - just need to catch it on the other side. Take multiple small cuts - don't try to hog off chunks. You'll love it.

Sam, the extension table that Arch spoke of will REALLY help with snipe. Google it and you'll see what it is. Easy to make and use. As OldRem states Less is best with a planer

The extension jig did really help out the Rigid I have. Post a pic of the one you picked up. I'm curious which one you have.

Hi Guys

Interesting project & looking good.

Regarding Planer Snipe -- Hoping it's OK if I comment

This may be old news but :

The snipe is often caused as the work leaves the input roller

You may want to try feeding a scrap piece that the same thickness directly behind the first piece -- as in contacting the back. Works well on my current grizzly 20 inch planer and an older delta 12" we used at a window company. N

Also --// when running multiple boards I try to keep them back to back and or cut to length after planing.

Your results may vary but hope this helps.

I build mine out of 3/4" Melamine it's about 3 ft long And as wellcraft classis stated a sacrificial piece used at the start and the finish will almost 100% guarantee you get a flawless cut. I'd post a pic but...since the move my sled has been missing in action I'll look again today and if it shows up, i'll post a pic.For long pieces I use my roller stand for support and set it just a bit higher. this is another key. If you gently lift the leading edge as it out feeds it greatly helps to avoid snipe. And one final tip Feeding the board at a bit of an angle instead of straight will also help avoid snipe.

I use a 5 roller stand on the input side and this on the exit. - Bought it 25 years ago, so no idea where to find them anymore. I align everything with a 6ft level before I start.

Never had a snipe issue.

I used the thin cloth .. Later I will give it a tight skim and sanding with some fairing compound and call it good .
But first tomorrow I will use the oxolic acid on the upper deck for the final cleaning . Sand down to 120 then I guess she’s ready for the varnish ...:)
The Admiral was wanting to join the golf cart club around the neighborhood so I found this Yamaha electric one
for 1300 bucks .. I’ll do a few things like get the longer roof and I have a new windshield coming for it .
‘Seems to run ok but bit slow .. At least a little slower than the ezgo I have at work ..

A little experiment... A piece of mahogany and the piece of cedar that I am replacing due to a split .
On the right is 1 coat of OTF
On the left is a coat of Epifanes 50/50 with brushing thinner ..
After it drys I will thin the varnish to 25% for a coat on both then follow up with around 5% thinner for a couple coats ..
We’ll see what it will look like !

I hope she turns out nice Rem !
After drying over night with a fan blowing on it . A little chilly 50 deg in the garage. The varnish side is completely dry ..
The OTF side dry but still a little oily feeling .. I guess with all the MS in the mix it’s taking longer to dry .
‘I think I read somewhere that the MS they sell in stores now is different than what it used to be ..
Or maybe that was turpentine. ICR ....

At those temps, expect about 3 days for the OTF to finish drying.

I knew I had a photo of the setup I use when planing. Finally found it.

Thats a pretty nice cart there for 1300 bux......not sure what a golf cart club is tho....do they play golf or just drve the carts around with cocktails? .....if its the latter,im in!:D

Boats coming along great Sam....if it were me,id prolly just run with the Spar and skip the OTF
