Re: 180 SS New to the Forums.

I ordered the Flooring tonight, and the adhesive.

Ez I took a page from your book. Hope it doesn't offend. I liked your flooring. Storm Grey I tried to find more reviews. The stuff looks really good.

I still need to find the vinyl for wrapping the consoles. Any suggestions? Anyone have a favorite type or location to purchase it from? haha
Going with the grey/charcoal look.

My Deck adhesive came in today. Now I wait anxiously for my Nautolex flooring!
Can't wait to get this and the paint touch ups done. Once I do that then I will be able to start steam rolling again.

Re: 180 SS New to the Forums.

This is one long rebuild. I have good news though.
My little lady and I bought a home. A home with a massive garage... Yep so I'll be able to work on my boat, put down in the middle of a project and keep going. After we move in and setup. I'll post pics of the ole girl in her new home.

Talk about busy... This boat's had the adventure of coming home. Then I find out I am going to be a Dad, and now a new home. Cannot wait to finish this project so I can finally enjoy the boat. haha

Re: 180 SS New to the Forums.

I know it's been a while. I felt bad that I haven't kept up with you guys lately.
My Daughter is 10 months now and keeps me busy. I enjoy that time spent the most.

I've finally have a handle on most of the crap we own and removed it from the man space garage. I need to do some minor modifications (Pictures soon) to space to accommodate the new resident. I also added heat to the space, it's 70 degrees when it's 90 out and it's 30 degrees when it's 40 out. When it's colder outside, you get the picture. I am still not sure how it gets that cold the previous owners mentioned it was insulated. I have my doubts.

To further the note. I may be pulling up my deck to check everything below as I do not want any critters or smaller getting comfortable. Since I just have the deck down it won't be much work to do that process. I may go to sheet foam too for added support and find a way to add the noodles in above deck compartments. More notable the stern in case some day I upgrade to a heavier 4 stroke OB.

I do plan on adding a lot of pictures soon. Thanks for taking the time to read.

Went through your thread, a work in progress once again. I enjoy seeing the ideas and work by all here end in a restored better than new boat.

overall, sounds like life has been good. i know what ya mean on the slow resto plan. but now that you have the major teardown done, the work will be easy to break up into small chunks that you can do whenever you can get 15 minutes free.

i forget....do you have noodles beneath your deck now? if so, worth pulling the floor just to swap em out for extruded sheet foam, as they definitely absorb water over time, not the best recipe for bilge altho they work fine above deck level.

Re: 180 SS New to the Forums.

Thanks Watermann, Dozer and Bara.

I do have the noodles under the deck.
The water soaking isn't a huge issue ONLY because the boat will be inside more often than not. Even with my plans on using it as often as possible, it will more than likely have plenty of time to dry out.
I plan to pull the deck to ease my mind to make sure I don't have any destructive creatures inside there, and clean out the leaves (again.). Call it OCD but if this boat has a home to live in, it may as well stay as clean as it can, fish blood/bait spots excluded.

I epoxy coated everything twice, but I don't want to risk the work when it's as simple as drilling a few deck rivets and checking.

I decided to do the sheet foam because of stability and possibly less squeaking. I remember reading the noodles can squeak and cause boaters to be a little more than annoyed. I was even considering some sort of vented tray to line the outside of each rib space to prevent the squeaking friction between hull and floatation. Then there is the possibility of poor in stuff again, with a vented tray at the bottom to prevent it from blocking drainage holes.

It's not as much fun having to re do work but it's a nice feeling going back and reassuring a decision.

I'll get pictures tonight of the space she'll be living in for the foreseeable future.

concur 100% with your plan. i've also seen folks note squeaking with extruded foam, and so i'm putting a few blobs of Liquid Nails adhesive between the sheets of foam and where the foam meets the stringers to discourage movement.

Not to take floatation to an extreme level but I wonder if arranging it in a different pattern other than all vertical or tapered horizontal shape stacks. Possibly a combination, maybe a sandwich configuration. Possibly to allow more ply in different directions during the pounding against the hull. When that time comes I will see about different shape possibilities. I for see a sharp kitchen knife making strange cuts. haha

Re: 180 SS New to the Forums.

Glad to see you back, Harry. I used a hot glue gun to stick the foam sheets together for vertical stick to the hull behind the side panels and under the tray. Still working after almost two years and when I replaced the control cables during the past summer, the foam was in place. I was wondering how well the hot glue would work, but I didn't have PL but I did have a hot glue gun when I wanted to finish up the sides. Lucky, I guess.

Re: 180 SS New to the Forums.

Harry, I went with the 3M 78 Spray adhesive for glueing the foam together, 2 24oz cans did the whole boat, it was $10 + change per can at Menards. Then I used PL to glue the foam to the plywood decking. I went vertical with the foam, I really like the results, but not the effort. I probably spent 4 evenings and a weekend cutting and fitting the foam. Although I would probably do it that way again, on the next boat, if there's a next boat.

Re: 180 SS New to the Forums.

Guys I really appreciate the information. I will definitely put these ideas forward and see how to adapt them into the design.

As promised I have pictures to show the boats home. I need to do more cleaning, as I want to remove everything on the right hand side of the space. As well as the back work bench. Going to build a wrap around bench later. I am sure it will show up in pictures.

The space is roughly 24 x 30. I plan on keeping the boat tucked in to the left of the Garage door. Granting me access for vehicle maintenance.

I figure two of these bad boys will make moving her sideways once in the garage a lot easier.

Great space you have there, it will be nice to have her inside where you can work on her.

Wish I had the high ceilings like you have there, it should make for a great space. Let the rebuilding commence!

Re: 180 SS New to the Forums.

FINALLY! She came home Sunday.
Family time takes up so much time. For the better.
I think I'll start working on her more and more after my Daughter goes to bed. That seems to be my most likely time.

Here she is in her home.

I'll show pics on what I am going to use to slide her over another foot. So far that's where she ended up after I pushed her into the shop. Love how light she is at this time.

Here's where the OB Sits, tucked out of the way.

Also note the cushy bar stools, I want to cut the legs a bit for easier seating. They were from my apt where I had a bar height dinning area. Should make for great shop seating .

Don't mind the drapes. They were from the original owner. Going to replace with some old blinds from the house... haha

Hope to start soon. Again.

My Dad thinks I am nuts for wanting to pull up the deck again. Since I finally have it some place where time isn't an issue anymore as there is little chance for weather getting to her. I want to take more time and focus on the details.

I am really thrilled with the fit. :)
