I haven't read too far into it but looks like PB has decided to hi-jack me. I've seen others have similar issues with PB.

Unfortunately this means I'll likely stop posting progress work because who wants to read about it without pictures. I don't have the time to redo the work already done here (I also don't really want to either).

My attitude towards this situation is I refuse to pay them money when they have fair use of the photos I uploaded.

I want to thank all of you for reading. Sorry Photobucket is a bunch of *profanity*.

Yeah you're not the only one who decided to throw in the towel here. I've replaced every photo in 3 threads now so far with one to go. I'm not one of those who're willing to let years of hard work on my boats just go away to never never land. A few pages every day takes less than a half hour of time and then before you know it it's all restored. .

Yeah, I get what you're saying. I have three separate forums that I use. One involving my wood shop, this site involving my boat rebuild and the third involving my truck.
I am thinking about going back to fix everything but I am just really pissed. I'm under 900 megs on their site and I was having them embedd less than a 10th of those images. I may just get pissed and build my own site, even if it ends up costing me more monthly to do so, I'd do it out of spite of PB.

I am still going through an updating the Photos. I am taking a gamble and using imgur.

I am going to lead off with the continuation of painting. I have my OB primed here with self etching primer.

This is the first coat of paint. My Dad jabbed me about how I should have sanded more. I jabbed back with the motor is 29 years old, she has a fine patina.

I have more to come. I've got a lot of updates to do so expect daily progress.

Yeah I hear that, there's nothing quite like sanding an OB motor, it was a nightmare to get my Merc 140 sanded down smooth as it had been trailered down miles of gravel roads.

Yeah, my OB was painted by the PO. I took a lot of the chips off but I left the intact paint on.

I did this for four reasons.

One: I don't know how long this OB is going to last. I want it to last a while and mechanically it's sound.

Two: If my state forces E15 down our throats then it won't matter how much work I do to my OB.

Three: I am really trying to get her on the water for some fun. She's close now. I won't have a lot of bells and whistles done but I want to see how she handles.

Four: It's a 1988 OB and I don't like to paint ha-ha.

I removed the old Bow brace. It was stuck in there pretty tight and required negotiations to remove. (I had to use a hammer.)

Temporary bracing

NyPb2zw.jpg

New bow frame, and again I used 3/4 (23/32)

Planning ahead and needing to mount the OB back on the boat I needed a way to make the OB levitate.

My friends started asking if I was going into barn raising.

Here is the Gantry assembled.

Here is the flying Outboard

Some more detail

And the OB is now installed.

A lot of slow negotiations and gentle nudging. I went heavy on 5200 for the bolt holes.

Here she is powered. I need to work on the cowl. I am removing the labels and going to patch the shield holes with JB weld. I will repaint the cowl first and then just go with a white cowl for now. I already ordered and have a new black gasket to add (later).

QWFuAsW.jpg

Not bad for a solo slow and steady OB install.

Gantry made a huge difference. I am glad to have it for the many future projects.

I did some prep to get ready to cut a battery hatch. I wanted to make sure I got some basic dimensions to think things through.

SzLa9Yf.jpg

This lead me down the path of regret for a bow bench seat. Planning was in order as it was decision time. More to come on this later on.

I got some carpeting the weekend I was planning this out. Instead of carpet glue I went with contact cement. A little easier for me to work with and it prevented drooping after a few moments of contact.

A little lead up to the carpeting. I had to remove the old carpet from the gunnels and I went with a chemical free shave method of removing the carpet glue I added 5 years ago.

I used a hand razor to shave my boat. *shudder*

Mistakes made and corrected. Living with this boat has taught me more on preferences. it also told me that sometimes you just change your mind on how you want layouts done.

Here is a template from the cray paper. Note the OB in the background. My Dad needed a place to store it and I obliged his request.

Here is some prep prior to cutting. My youngest helper/supervisor.

0oOPlqR.jpg

The carpet was exterior grade from HD at 46 cents a square foot. Most of this boats life will likely be indoors so the carpet will wear like iron.

Let the Carpeting begin!

My templates were a cute idea but beyond giving me a length measurement it was more work than I wanted to deal with and I just ended up cutting two large rectangles.

pc4mqW3.jpg

I started gluing the starboard gunnel at the top side first. This helped me set the direction carpet lines.

Also you'll notice the rim is gone on the BB backboard. Shaq was over my house and busted the BB rim. I need to get to fixing that one day.

pAvxd7M.jpg

I purposefully did NOT glue the carpet a foot from the bow. This will allow me to tuck cleanly cut the carpet between the blow deck plate and the gunnels.

I'll have more soon. Hope this helps anyone else with their projects.

It's always nice to see forward progress, especially right now as summer is fleeting. Lookin good! :

Yeah my fingers ached for a few days. It was nice that the carpet glue came off in sizable chunks.

Yeah, I am trying to make a go for some fall bass fishing. I feel close but every step also reminds me of 10-11 other minor things that you need to do.

I took the time to make a deck template out of cray paper. It's for marine vinyl and I know it is not as quiet to walk on or as easy on bare feet than carpet but it's vastly easier to keep clean.

66cRjnO.jpg

I laid the vinyl out for the sun to warm up and uncurl the edges.

UVEb4w6.jpg

Here is a post cutout and layout prior to glue.

CVfqHQ4.jpg

Here is post glue. I used my gantry to lift the 100+ lb vinyl roller. Lifting over the gunnels gave me a forethought of dinged tin and marred paint. Work smart!

More to come.

Interesting, I just noticed your SS has built in side panels of AL. That's a great design remedy to make the boat strong for the guys who just have to use these boats with rotten wood. What sort of transition piece did they use between the carpet sides and the deck?

Lookin good and now that the decking is in with the vinyl you'll be off like a shot on the rebuild. :thumb:

I believe this is what you're looking for and behind those vinyl wrapped pieces are rotten pieces of plywood.

I am not sure yet which direction I am going with the hull walls. I may do something similar but those side panels seem to get in the way when it comes to storing rods. It's going to be fun. This boat will splash before it's really finished. I am finding for me that it's better to get it functioning and work over the winter for finer details. Also it's friendlier on the budget.

Here I went with carpeting along the hull. It's nice to harbor the noise.

C784xeX.jpg

More contact cement. That stuff is no joke and fumes the room quickly.

CQvDj6c.jpg

Remember this guy?

pMtjWig.jpg

Here he is wrapped up and added to the boat. It wasn't an easy install but it went better than removal.

IGu985y.jpg

The ends of the gunnel are purposely not finished. I need to merge the bow deck to the gunnels.

I added support backing for my gauges and steering.

My hand at trying to wrap carpeting on my consoles. I am going with full carpeting. I didn't want to work with padding and vinyl and the feel of carpet is cooler in the sun.

I installed both consoles and reapplied the mounting brackets to the consoles for the bow bench. I found that these brackets are more tie ins for the consoles than supports for the bench seat. These are riveted into aluminum that makes up the bottom half of the consoles.

I installed the steering bracket.
