Taking a 10 day break to spend time with my wonderful woman. Definitely will be in the water before the fall. She'll still be getting a few other things before next year.

Got back Thursday from Raystown lake in PA. It was an interesting trip not as relaxing as I was hoping. Now dealing with rain during Labor day weekend. Trying to get enough done this season to use the boat for some fall fishing.

Some excellent fast work. You have helped motivate me to kick it in gear and get as much done now before the snow.. :/

Recent developments have caused me to wait until warmer weather. I am a new Dad as of February. Hopefully by May or June I can get back to work on the boat again when I have time. :D

Good to see you back DH, congrats on the young-un. Did you get to splash the boat?

I did not get a chance to take her out. I stopped myself before rushing into potential problems.
I need to rethink some things on the build before it goes to far. The deck, and consoles. Don't worry. I'll post pics with Progress.

GA I don't even know what cigars are good to smoke. I do know good whiskey though.

Re: 180 SS New to the Forums.

So, I plan on doing some work this weekend now that the weather has decided to become more agreeable.
I wish I had Dozerll's shop space.

I'll post pictures of progress. I's going to take some clean up as the winter wasn't to friendly to my project.

Some of the idea's I've had so far...

- Marine vinyl floor. Looking back on this paint wasn't a good option. The color will preferably be a sandstone color to help dissipate heat.
- Look at some gauges in case any of the old ones give me to much trouble. Also I am a fan of the chrome look, if I can buy some and the don't cost an arm and a leg in price. I am going to wait until after the first splash. I want to make sure she's running well.
- Drivers side back splash. I am going to attempt to place a piece of finished Teak as the back splash for the gauges. Maybe a flowing effect versus a large rectangle.
- I need to get a new steering wheel, and back housing cover. They've had the course. This will happen before the gauges I am sure.
- Repaint the stern to cover the touch up spots.
- Repaint the bow where she was welded.
- I already added carpet to the consoles to help with sound, I may need to trim that out. If my Dad's reading this you know why! haha.
- Look into some under gunnel lighting. Possibly LED lighting. Dad's idea.
- Clean up bow trolling motor, rebuild and possibly paint where needed.
- Clean up Outboard and repaint. May look into a SS prop if aluminum doesn't work out well.
- Clean and repaint the windshield frame, clean glass with muriatic acid and look for a small (powered) windshield wiper. We'll see on that last option.
- Install fuse block, and run wiring to battery.
- spec out and setup switchboard for lights/equipment.

Long list and I am sure as water is fluid it'll change.

Forgot to add. Rebuff the paint on the hull to see if it can be brought back.

It's a little late to add all new paint at this point.

That's a pretty good list you have there. You can always bring her up and work in the shop, just the commute will be a little much.:D

I would do that if money or time were not an issue haha!

I did not get a chance to work last Saturday, but hopefully this Saturday I can really get started.

tiny bites are the answer. i went out this morn for a few minutes and glued on some trim, maybe 10 minutes. but when i come home, i'll see some progress and be inspired to get after it again. boat resto is a lot like a snowball rolling downhill.

EDIT: i just looked back at your list. many of the items on there are great for doing in little chunks, some can even be done between fishing trips, and some (planning and laying out schematics for wiring) can be done inside while hangin with the family.

Re: 180 SS New to the Forums.

Thanks Barato.

I am thinking about pulling the consoles this weekend. I was a bit anxious in installing them with the wrapped carpet. I may pull the bow support for the front bench seat. This way I can pick up my Marine Vinyl, and have an EASY time installing it as a flooring. Then install the deck parts on top and avoid piecing the expensive flooring.

Do any of you have a suggestion on what type of vinyl to wrap a console with. I keep thinking about what is used for an auto. It has a stretched cotton or poly backing for padding and then the outside surface for the top.

It's a step backwards but it will be worth it in an attempt to get her set correctly. Glad I have more all aluminum rivets to reattach everything.

I also really need to get a set plan to avoid a stoppage point if I am on a roll and the Admiral is unaware of my time involved with the project. *whistles innocently*.

It's tough getting things going back in priorities again, but I guess starting with the floor again and working my way up will be a solid start. I really wish I had the shop space, I would have continued like a mad man all winter and have the enjoyment phase already.

Hey DH, my consuls have 1/4"foam then the vinyl, works great, just use some spray 90 adhesive to hold the foam down, then more adhesive on the under side to hold the vinyl.

I'll try this out. Any type in particular or any foam will work?

Upholstery foam, get it a fabric or upholstery supply store.

Re: 180 SS New to the Forums.

I did re-pull the consoles and removed the upper half of carpet that I glued down to those consoles. I glued them little too well if you ask me. It didn't come off without a fight. I also pulled off the bow support for the bench seat that will go up front. I am going to measure out and order the marine flooring tonight. I would like to finish that as soon as possible as it appears my schedule is getting busier this summer.

Thanks Dozer! Looks like I'll hit up one of the 5 locally haha. :D
This also gives me an idea of maybe adding padding to certain side panels. Maybe an inch or two along the sides of the bow, I could also make some cushions that mount to the consoles as they were in the original. I would just use my epoxy coated plywood for a good rot free backing. I would want to continue the vinyl theme in the boat otherwise I think it would look weird without continuing the vinyl color in more places.

I was thinking about cleaning and repainting the OB. I saw a few articles on here and have an idea on the process. I plan on stripping all loose paint and repainting. There was an informative write up here. Painting 70hp Johnson OB and I want to make sure I get this correct, as best I can.

I do need to know where you guys get decals. I saw a guy on Ebay but they aren't the factory standard. Any suggestions?

Also going to paint the spots missing or needing paint on the hull. I plan to use the same method as I use for the OB.

As for keeping things off my fresh paint. Possibly pick up clear drop cloth, tarp below the area, build a box frame with a double lap door. Add some fans, and it will almost look like a giant saran wrapped box and man it's going to be hot in there! We'll see!
