Taking the Jet out in a few, but I'll get pictures of what I'm talking about...
I need to rebuild the windshield surround, and re attatch to the boat, right now it has carpet edges someone screwed down, it looks like crap to be honest.

And if that engine works out, this will be powered via a 140hp Chrysler :D

Hey Gib - Are you sucking up to an un-named Mod going with Chrysler power? Hope she is a good one and makes the wife happy!

And it sounds like you're invented a new game moving all of them around. Boat Checkers :)

PS - I like the look of Chryslers too.

Yeah it does make life eaiser

And I had two boats in the front yard yesterday, Jet on the front lawn, and the Chief dead center on the drive way.

I think the neighbors will think I have totally lost it when I roll in with #4 boat :peace:

Lets make a lots of noise when you leave with it, I think the neighbors need to see one boat leaving haha

and since I have been lax on pictures

I have also been thinking about changing the passenger side console around, I'm thinking about loosing the console part and make it into a straight wall, and then cutting that wall in half to give it a larger opening to the cabin area...

I may just leave it as it is, but make the wall brackets only come out as far as I'm thinking to lessen holes in the metal and the natolex...

I also need to work on the cabin front windshied.... Glen I may scratch your head while your down here, if your up to it.

No problem Chris between the two of us shouldn't be anything we can't figure out!!!

I'll take any freebies; if it's atleast mostly clean toss it in your truck on the way down! :)

I'm pretty sure your SS will have a fuel tank below the deck due to the fuel filler cap on the side.

Yeah he kinda got me thinking more; I'm a bottom feeder and I had an engine sitting right under my nose

and my bottom feeder friendly riding mower has a ball hitch on the front, soooo nice playing boat checkers with that :D

and to clarify my "mostly clean" comment; mostly rust free.

The fuel tank the chief came with was a mess, I dumped my carb cleaner in the tank in an attempt to use it... in the end it just made a mess of everything and almost got me stranded on a very large lake... good times...

I also still need to buy another can of that carb cleaner ($30!)...

yeah... for the "good" stuff,

I'm a big fan of the dip, let sit for 24hrs, then pull out all sparkley clean!

and I should get a picture of Dozers boat next to the Jet, it dwarfs it!

back when, it was dip, let sit for 1/2 hr and it was clean. of course, that old stuff would take skin off with 1 drop on arm.

if you have any friends who play guitar, get their string ends from when they re-string.....the conventional wisdom is "never use wire to clean jets", i guess on theory that steel wire could gouge jets and affect spray pattern. i've found that if you're careful, this is nonsense, and the guitar strings are wound with soft phosphor bronze anyway. the winding works to scrub the iinside of small holes, carb jets or whatever (oil holes on crankshafts, etc). for anything too small for a .17 rifle brush, these work wonders. old strings probably would work well for "dental flossing" under the limber holes too.

know what rocks for jets?

those welding tip cleaners!

Dirt cheap and they come with lots of sizes!

I like to spray with cleaner, run the tip cleaners through the jets to loosen it up, then dip for a day or so, pull out and one final spray off before putting back together.

If I'm feeling frosty I'll even remove the jets first

Re: 18' Starcraft Starchief OB Rebuild

yeah lol

most of the time I don't go that far, infact the carb is lucky if I bother to remove the gaskets...

usually the cleaner takes care of them for me, and a few times the gasket got all fluffed up like new! :joyous:

plastic; I learned my lesson, that gets removed

Re: 18' Starcraft Starchief OB Rebuild

I headed over to my dads yesterday and found an old can (8 years old) can of carb cleaner, opened the can and found it had pretty much seperated...
Tossed a sparkplug in there for 20min and it came out pretty... so I'm calling it still good.

I have one of the chrysler carbs soaking now, one down side is there are alot of metal shavings floating around in the mix... I assume it has been eating away a the can...

I also stopped by a service shop that has a stock of parts for old mercs, he thought I was dumb asking for chrysler parts from him, but he had a fuel pump kit and some lower unit plugs in stock (all came in merc bags)

And the engine appears to be a 1979

Re: 18' Starcraft Starchief OB Rebuild

it's alive muwhahaha!

fired up and shot 5 wasp nests a good 12ft out lol

I replaced the fuel lines, and then hooked it directly up to my kicker tank and yanked the battery out of the Jet.

After being out smarted by the neutral safety switch it fired right up, even gave some good pops with straight seafoam

I can't get it to pump water off of the muffs for some reason... even after cleaning out the big nest stuff that was blocking it..

it got hot but not hot enough to sizzle water...

I'll get a new garbage can and run it in a tank next time, I'll get a water pump kit and a new thermostat while I'm at it.
