Re: 18' Starcraft Starchief OB Rebuild

I was skiing out in Utah once and just about ripped my thumb off. Two plastic spoons, some tape and a couple shots of medicinal Ta Kill Ya and back to the slopes. Ligaments were repaired later.

Glad to hear it's nothing:lol:

ouch!

I was lucky with my other finger, I ended up getting full movment back (lots of work lol, and I wow'd the doc by making a fist 2 weeks after the pin was removed), I had a 15 yr old dirt biker take me and my bike out, and it pinched my ring finger off, lost one side of the nerves, but other side was was gtg, tendons did not tear, and I bent my wrist all the way back.
Was neat tho, blood was gushing out everywhere with my heartbeat, all over the bike, even etched the engine case (blood will eat metal!)...:lol:

That injury cost 10k!!, with the "digital" nerve repair.
I think I have back prob 95% of the feeling... and gets a lil better every year

And I scored a finger spint from work, shiney polished aluminum.

I'm enjoying the shiney metal jokes, and flipping coworkers off, even flipped off the dept manager, i even included a shiney metal bird comment

Dude!!! Seems to be an occupational hazzard with these boats --- fingers, hands etc!! Glad to hear that you are going be ok though! Dang trailers! It should be a rule that any new boat that comes into dry dock, caution stickers are shipped to us tin heads so that we remember to be super careful!

yeah it's funny tho, I seem to recall fingers heal quickly... it has been a while though... :)

I'm still having lots of laughs at my expense though.

That was the best part about my other finger, people would ask questions and I would pull the cover off of my finger to show the stick coming out of the end, and to make it extra cool I would grab the end of the pin to prove it goes all the way down by showing how stiff.

Man those were some good times. :)

Scored #2 downrigger via fleebay

Another Big Jon, but this time it's electric, and a 4ft boom like the manual.

now I gotta get another swivel...
My plan is to use the swivel mount mostly for storage and transportation, and I can just leave the downriggers mounted.

An electric Big John is good. Easier crankin' with your banged up pinkies. :)

to true!

+ most of the lakes I like best are 150 - 220+ft

I figure 75-100ft fishing depths for the most part (depending on how the winter did) = lots of cranking to reload the downrigger

electric = push button when I start reeling in :D

And this is the manual downrigger

Difference in price of the two is about $80 after shipping

The same seller had another (twin), it went for about $200 + $45 shipping :faint:

Wish I could score some riggers. When I find an affordable one and read the ad, most times the reason for cheaper is it's busted or flat wore out.

Re: 18' Starcraft Starchief OB Rebuild

yeah, I saw lots of those.

I like these big jons mostly due to the fact that if I must, I can have a machine shop drill it out and insert a bushing to fix the reel if needed.
The rest; I know a guy that can weld! (he did the bottom of my boat)

I also went into this keeping in mind that a basic big jon downrigger cost about $130 shipped, but I want the longer mast for an unknown reason, but they are the ones that are really hard to get cheap. :)
