Hey arch - just a thought on tank and battery placement. I noticed when underway at idle with just you in the boat she listed a bit to the weighted side.

Maybe offset the battery and tank to port then?

Not that I'm insinuating you will be spending all your time alone at idle....:D

(Actually, the Scout does the same thing at trolling speed unless I fill the livewell for ballast.)

Re: 16' Nescher ski boat complete restore- SPLASHED!!

Thanks guys, it does feel good. In fact Vegas I was so keyed up, I forgot to take more pictures.....the still camera was in my pocket the whole time. Scout, the 6 gallon tank was on the starbord side and the batter was on the port side. If the tank goes in the back, it will end up on the port side....if its in the front, I may just put the battery on the center line. I figure most of the time there will be two people in the boat.

By the way, the no-feed back steering is worth the money. Not fighting the wheel in turns is great! Yesterday the tires and wheels came in, $95 for white spoke wheels and 205 x 14 trailer rated tires. I now can get the wheels / tires I've had on it, back on the Sea Ray.

Today I'm going to work on mounting the radio and get the bottom of the seat frames painted. Hopefully I can get the carpet in too. I'm ready to put the seats in for the final time....I bet I've had them in and out 100 times!

Arch,

I'm not the first (and most likely not the last), but CONGRATS man!! Your hard work and attention to detail have certainly paid off. You are the envy of many here (myself included). Thanks for sharing your journey with us. I'm sure "Miss Morgan" is quite pleased with her new life. You've given us plenty to work with on our projects (as a lot of our brothers here have). Thanks again... and don't forget about us "lil' folks" here.

Re: 16' Nescher ski boat complete restore- SPLASHED!!

Thanks BigBlock, I hope some of the stuff I have posted is helpful to others. I have really enjoyed the boat rebuild and posting.

Today was one of those, drink coffee....come up with a plan...go to 5 stores to get parts, then come back and try to get things to fit together. Of course by that point it was 2, I started at 7, so how did that happen?

The main head scratchier today was the ski pylon....which is the wrong one, they are sending me the correct one (adjustable not the fixed height they sent). I REALLY don't want holes in the deck. After thinking about the forces involved, and coming up with really complex solutions, I have decided that I need to drill the deck. I'm thinking of coring over-sized holes filling them with epoxy, then inserting stainless all thread in them. Once it cures I want to go over the top with some reinforcing mat. Anyhow there will be some post on that in the next few days.....I'm ready to take her skiing!

Today I worked on the stereo and seat frames. I 'm mounting the stereo vertically on the back side of the throttle mount. You won't be able to play cd's or access it easily, but I don't plan on using it that way. I'm planning on mostly XM or Ipod. I'm also planning on controlling it with the remote. I just didn't want a big hole in the dash. Here is a pic of the remote mount I made.

IMG_0291.jpg

Here it the stereo mounting bracket I made...actually two of them, the second one fit!

IMG_0290.jpg

After that I focused on the seat bases. I had planned on putting carpet bases on the outside, but the upolstery in the middle of the seats didn't seem to make a clean transition.

IMG_0289.jpg

So I made stainless steel transition bar and trimmed off the excess vinyl.

The carpet bases turned out pretty nice.

I finished up the evening by preping for the carpet, which should go in tomorrow..then the seats for the last time I hope! I'm planning on leaving the carpet loose in the back to deal with the ski pylon. Hope you guys are actually out enjoying your boats!

Carpet looks great. Good solution to the transition issue.

The seats look great arch! Why didn't you just go with ski mounts through the transom again? That ski pylon sounds like a cool idea though too. If I were you I'd be out playing on the lake right now. She's not done, but she's functional:)

Its tempting, but I want her done! When I take her out to my place at Eufaula, I won't have many tools....I want her right, and if it takes another week it will be worth it! Working on the crarpet and radio today. Think Max may have a voltage issue, so I started another thread on that. Hopefully the radio and carpet will be in by the end of the day....time to make a supply run....

Once again, looking great Arch... it's all in the details and you've got them nailed. I'm with you on the stereo... I spent way too many hours making the thing accessible so I could use the CD player and guess what? I've never used it... ipod and radio only in more than a year and 300+ hours on the boat. However, my mounting does allow me to easily adjust volume, track # etc from the helm so I don't need a remote. Might mount one anyway as yours looks cool!!!

I wish:(:(:(

Looking good man. I think we're better off not being at the lake this weekend anyway. Too many idiots out there on Memorial weekend. But then again, for you that would mean there are more chickadees to attract. Everything is looking good. I'm ready to see her with the interior all finished, I'm sure you are too. Good idea on hiding the stereo, most folks just use and mp3 player these days anyway. I hated my stereo being in the passenger side glove box last year because I had to get up to mess with it, but now I'll have a remote and it should be no problem. Now I need to figure out how to have my mp3 player handy from the helm seat. As always, good work.

Well I started out the day trying to figure out why my battery puked in the bilge....think that might have had something to do with how I had it tied down...at an angle. Started another thread on that issue. After cleaning up the mess, I did get the carpet in (didn't glue it down behind the seats because of the ski pylon issue.) Can anything be simple on a boat, lol! The carpet went in smoothly, ended up with a couple of relief cuts up under the bow, not to bad at all.

I also got the stereo in...hope Jay doesn't see my wiring mess on this! I'm amazed at the amount of wire I have in her....you would think I was wiring a main frame or something!

Tomorrow I'm working on speaker boxes.....why can I see that taking all day????

I can't believe this, but I'm doing a shop drawing for 6x9 speaker boxes.....does it ever end! LOL! :D I haven't built a speaker box since I was in high school! Naturally its at an odd angle....can't anything be square on a boat!

Re: 16' Nescher ski boat complete restore- SPLASHED!!

Hey Arch,

On mounting that ski pylon you could do what I did. For the gas tank, battery, and seat mounting I made some 1/2" plywood mounting plates, bored oversize mounting holes, filled holes with epoxy, coated entire plate w/epoxy, bored correct size holes in mounting holes, installed SS T-nuts, epoxied plates to floor and finished edges by filleting w/epoxy peanut butter. No holes through my nice new floor that way to rot out. Overkill? Probably yes. But hey, it is my boat. Hint: Nylon bolts in the mounting holes from above prevents epoxy and also gel coat in my case from gumming up the works. Nether sticks well to nylon. Waxing the bolts helps even more.

Just some incredible renovation work you've done on your boat. I still shake by head in disbelief on how good that paint job turned out every time I see it. What a head turner.

Thanks Jeff, do you have a pic? Sounds like what you did was one of the options I have been toying with.
