Thanks for the info! The gun I'm using is a Devilbis Finish Line. Nice little gun for the money. By the way, if anyone is wondering (doubt it!) Mercury Phantom Black isn't a pure black. It has white, blue and yellow in it....at least according to the color analyzer at the paint shop.

Arch- max looks great! Do you have to use a special paint for the motor?

Mick the paint isn't the secret so much as the primer. You need a self etching primer for aluminum. otherwise the primer / paint will flake right off. Not a lot to report today, buffed out the bow....but I'm sure the pics will look just like they did before I buffed it! Here is a quick video of Max.

Hey Arch.
Looks like everything is coming together.
Max looks great. Sorry about you not being able to put the stickers for a while.
Even getting ahead of schedule. I'm sure you will find something to do with your time.
Great update.

Arch, what did you use to degrease the motor? Mine is pretty bad around the hinge/clamp area. Ive wiped and scrubbed but am currious if you have a better way. Its coming along very nicely. Pretty much just have interior to go.

Hey I'm all about travel! Tonight I relocated Max to my garage....David K is using the paint booth tomorrow, then its coming down! I'm tired of paint for a while! I need to finish buffing the trash out of the paint, then get started on the wiring and gauges this weekend. I'm still pondering the rub rail, I may have a powder coater bead blast the old rail this week and see what I have. I know they have a jeweler's product that they can fill minor defects with. At this point spending $50 on powder coating it sounds pretty good if they have a silver that matches the paint.

Arch,

You may want to check with a shop that does anodizing. Our son does business with a shop in Macon GA that puts anodized finishes on their machine shop products. The cost may be a little more than powder coating but would be much more durable - it is a "rub" rail...

The only issue I have is can they fix the small pitted areas before they anodize it? I know it will eventually get beat up, but I'm planning on babying her.....now that I think about it, I might be to worried about hurting her to relax and have fun!:eek::eek:

Arch- you may want to look into getting some CAUTION tape and using that as your rub rail instead:D

I agree with that. Maybe get her a couple of body guards as well to make sure she doesn't get injured.

Can't wait to see what she looks like with the gauges and everything in her.

Re: 16' Nescher ski boat complete restore

I like the caution tape idea. I actually ordered a giant air bag to encase her while on the lake.....:D:D

Not to much to report tonight. David K came over and painted some cabinets before I broke down the paint booth. While he did that I took apart the "boat stand" thing I built for her while she was upside down. Tomorrow I will hopefully get the paint booth broken down and stored....depends on the weather, its supposed to get stormy here...maybe! The plan is to get the paint booth out, the shop in order and back to the fun stuff this weekend! Hopefully the wiring and gauges will start to take shape...as well as the switches....I also need to finish up the color sanding and buffing. I also sent back the steering that was too long today, hopefully sometime next week I will get the shorter unit back.

I took down the paint booth tonight, I'm going to need to do some scrubbing on the floor. Its pretty black from the stuff David K shot on the cabinets last night. I love oil base house paint! I guess I'll start with the pressure washer and see how that does. Hopefully by Saturday or so Miss Morgan will be back in the shop! Its nice not having to walk around a paint booth!

I know what you mean about the paint. I painted some speakers for a client and I still cannot get the stuff up.

Well tomorrow I'm hoping to finish cleaning up the shop and get to wiring Miss Morgan. I'm still bumfuzzeled on the rub rail...everyone wants more to ship it than it cost! I'm going to to call West Marine in T-town tomorrow to see if they will order it and have it shipped in on their normal freight shipment. If so that will save me about $150. I can just run through there on the way to the lake one weekend. I really need to get out there and do some repairs. Summer is almost here :D
