Hey arch,
That thing should make you scoot across the lake. That should help generate some serious pucker power.
I had to lower the volume on my puter. I hope yours runs that good. :D:cool:
Have you picked it up yet?
I'm heading to your state in the morning.
Good luck my friend.

It was a good day...found out I get a tax return....obviously someone in the government didn't do their job if I'm getting something back :p! I also picked up the tower on a fairly warm, sunny afternoon....runs like a champ!

After getting it home and safely tucked away in my garage I took a closer look at it. There is one wire that needs replaced, for some reason the insulation on it deteriorated....not a big deal. There is also a small "tab" broken off of the retainer that holds the throttle and shifter cable in place. I'm guessing I can round one up on ebay. There is a little bit of "grinding" on the bottom of the skeg, but no chips or missing pieces, not bad for 23 years old. Actually the entire motor is really clean. It has some wear on it, but looks well taken care of and probably has pretty low hours. Compression was almost perfect on it.

After that I went down to the shop and did some cleaning...made a list / organized to finish up a few things on the boat and build the paint booth. I need to do a little glass work on the seacast transom patch....already itching! Also I need to drill the keel & splash well drain holes. After that I'm going to push it outside and clean / build the paint booth. I also played with the stripes tonight, what do you think about this?

A 2" strip from the bow to the point where it drops down on the sides, then as it rounds the corner it covers the entire transom. That would be silver, and the rest would be red.

Where are you headed Bob?

Hey arch,
I'm heading just into OK, going to Muldrow to pick up an engine and a complete Gen II outdrive.
The motor looks great. The boat graphics sound pretty cool too.
Have fun

Never been there....but if you went another 40 miles or so west you would be at my place at Eufaula. Good luck on the outdrive / motor, hope it is a good one! Have a safe trip!

Nice motor, Im getting a nice return too, 8500 but that has to pay some bills and put a new roof on the house this summer. I like the stripes too.

I love your boat. It is really gonna be sharp when you're done.

Thanks for all the step by step on the paint. I'm gonna need it when I eventually get that far on my 69 sea star.

Awesometown!!! Now you just need color and you are going to really be moving along. Now if I could just get mine back on the trailer, but the snow and rain are keeping me from doing that right now.

Re: 16' Nescher ski boat complete restore

thanks Pete, just let us know if you need more info. So far I have spent most of the day cleaning.....and managed to get one finger with the cordless drill....slipped off a deck screw head and got my finger.....you would have thought I was shot the way it bled! I have one frame built for the paint booth and about half the parts cut out...headed back out to screw it together. Hopefully we will be ready for paint this week....Sorry to hear about the snow Frisco...its a pain in the **s. Mountain Man, there is nothing like a tower!!! You just have to experience one, no words for it. :D

Looonnnggg day! I did get a lot done...cleaned up the shop and pushed the boat outside....then worked on the paint booth. I got most of the hard stuff done today. I ran out of plastic, so I will pick some more up tomorrow and finish it up. I have some video that I will post later...right now I'm heading for the shower!

Hey arch,
The booth / addition looks nice.
Thanks again for the good weather today. I wish I would have had time to stop and see you but I know you understand. We got the motor home safely but didn't get home until 1 A.M. Long day.
Hey arch, You know they do make tools to prevent you from drilling into youself. Ouch, my friend
Looking forward to the paint.

Re: 16' Nescher ski boat complete restore

I have been pondering painting it Mick. I'm sure the drive will get paint, but I haven't decided on cowl....mine is in real good shape, but it will look bad once I paint the rest of the motor. I would paint all of it in a heart beat, but I need to find new stickers...they don't make them any more. I have found some on e-bay but they are a couple hundred by the time you get all of them. I will probably paint the motor, then maybe paint the cowl next winter if I can find the stickers. Right now I have tons of other stuff to buy.

Yes it does get a roof Skibum, it wouldn't work to well without one! Its big, but not once I get the boat in it....I should have about 3' left on the sides and back. You really need that much room to move around comfortably (and quickly) while trying to get a wet, even coat on.

Bob I was trying to put in some deck screws without a pilot hole....$#%^&%$& thing laid over and the bit ended up on my finger....I'm sure it won't be the last time! I wish you could have stopped by, but you were 150 miles east.....come back next summer and I'll take you out on Miss Morgan!

I'm heading to HD this morning to pick up some plastic and a couple of 2x4's...I had a design change on the doors...think I'm just going to have a removable panel on the large opening.....I drew double doors, but last night it occurred to me that I'm making it to hard! K.I.S.S.

Have you thought about getting some new stickers at your local screen print shop. They would look the same, no one could tell. I'm going to be getting mine done for the spring. Hey, you could even change the font of them as well, and colour. Get them to match your boat. Just my 2 cents worth.

I like the booth. I was wondering, I think I remember either back in this post, or on another thread you said something about pushing air.

I'm no painter but catch on purdy fast. Are you going to push instead of pull with the fans? My ignorant thoughts would be that pushing would stir the inside air a lot. Or is that what's needed?

Another question, with overspray moving from painted to unpainted, do you have to keep wiping ahead of your paint?

I think I just figured out my own question. Can you blow the overspray dust with the 1st stage of the gun trigger?

Re: 16' Nescher ski boat complete restore

Mitch,

I like the "positive pressure" booths over "negative". I have worked in both, the negative pulls in lots of trash. No matter how "air tight" it is, dust / dirt / junk gets pulled into the booth from the cracks and crevices. A positive pressure booth will just push air out of these places into the space surrounding the booth. The air (and over spray) will follow the path of least resistance to the exhaust port. In this case a couple of cheap air filters. A positive boot should really have high volume low speed fans, so I'm not sure how my box fans will work. One reason I placed them up high is to keep them from sturing up dirt on the ground.

As for the over spray, it usually isn't a problem if you get things on quickly. It takes about 20 minutes for the paint to "tack" (assuming you are using the right temperature reducer). Any over-spray that lands on the paint before it tacks should "burn in". The over-spray is pretty heavy and tends to "fall" out of the air in a couple of minutes.

It shouldn't take more than 5-10 minutes to get a coat on this hull. You do have to keep switching sides, spray 5' on one side, then go to the other. If you spray one side, then go back down the other, you may end up with a dry spot where the two meet in the middle. You have to keep a "wet edge" where adjoining sections meet. Hope that helps...might be more than you wanted to know!
