I havent run virus protection in about 10 years and since then I have never had a virus or problem. Just know what you are downloading. My new laptop had mcaffe and the thing was incredibly slow. I took it off and now it runs great.

I'm headed to get something to eat, I'll edit the other one and post it in a bit.

archbuilder,
Glad to hear and see you got the puter working again. Video was good too.
When are you shooting the primer?

Now you guys have me looking at video cameras. and I haven't even started yet. The snow is gone now though.

Archbuilder, like I mentioned in the other post. If you notice your HD chugging all the time, look at the processes in your task manager. if AVGRS is taking up all your resources. Go into AVG and turn off the resident shield option. You'll still check downloads, e-mails, and browsing. the RS is continually watching your HD. Overkill if you ask me.

Here is the priming video....not terribly exciting, but it shows the process. I wish I would have had the camera zoomed in on the boat a little tighter and at a different angle. I'm hoping to do a better job on documenting the painting. I hope to have a "window" in the paint booth for that.

I'll try to get some pics posted later......I hope to get this sanded down and the body work finished up pretty quick....I want to see some paint on it!

archbuilder,
Great Video, the boat turned out good. It was good to see it one solid color.
I can't wait to see that thing red. One other thing too at 45 mph no one will ever notice those small imperfection's. HA! HA!
Your still doing a great job.
I also noticed that you primed the trailer fenders too.

I did prime the fenders again...they are pretty much done other than a light sanding.

Nice videos archbuilder! Good that you had a day to get outside to do it.
Now with my boat since the paint on it is in good shape, do I need to prime? Or, can I just paint over the existing paint after a sanding? I assume any of the small areas that I touch up will need to be primed though?

Like bob said- I don't think anyone is going to notice those small imperfections! I know though- you will so you're doing it right:)

nice job! Looking good!

I would prime just so you are not trying to cover multiple colors. It takes alot thicker coat to hide differences in colors. primer also helps the paint stick

Prime even if I'm going white on white on the bottom and red on red for the top?

Sorry for the hijack arch:cool:

Hey guys, I been workin on the Puters for 25 years. One of the best AV PC Tools apps out there is System Mechanic PRO $50.00 a year. Has lots of tools to help speed up your PC and keep it safe and secure. Firewall protection too! Never had a virus since I started using it over 5 years ago. Check it out at Iolo.com

Love watching your projects progress. I have a 1960 LoneStar "Flamingo" that I am about to de-capitate and start the process. Good luck with your PC's and let me know if I can ever help you out with troubleshooting them. I assure you I WILL be asking for your "Boat Overhaul" expertise in the near future.

I would prime just for the adhesion properties of the primer.

Before priming do I have to do the same thing for prep- light sanding, wipe down, and then prime?

Sorry again for the hijack- archbuilder is probably hard at work anyways:D

Mick, I would see what the paint manufacturer you are planning to used recommends doing. You will need to wipe the hull down really good with acetone then sand it good. You just need to rough it up where it has some tooth....but make sure you sand everything, if it doesn't have tooth it wont stick! Scotchbrite pads are good to odd curves. Almost every paint I have seen recommends some kind of primer. Fixing to head out and do some primer sanding....I'll post pics later!

Re: 16' Nescher ski boat complete restore

First see the data sheet for the paint you are going to use. If it calls for primer which it most likely will see the data sheet for the primer. If the data sheet is like auto paint it will tell you what grit paper to use as well as coats, flash times, recoat times etc... with a lack of info from the sheet here is what I would do. First sand with 180 to 260 grit depending on the thickness of paint. then wipe down with wax and grease remover available at auto paint suppliers or napa. Use lint free rags or paper towles wiping one direction only and changing the rag very frequently. Then use tackcloth again wiping one direction. Then run all primer thru a filter as you pour it in your paint gun and spray it. look it over for any imperfections. if you missed any scratches or nicks you will see them now. If you find any sand, fill and fix them, Do the process again untill you are happy. after you spray the primer and are happy with it then as soon as the primer is dry to the touch spray the color on it.
Alot of paint if you wait too long for the primer to dry you have to sand and respray the primer again. some paints need or allow for sealers and many other coats and additives.
What kind of paint are you spraying? brand and product so I can look up the data sheet and can help with that specific product.

Here are the shots I took this weekend of the body work and priming. I took this shot of the vinyl samples and carpet samples before I started.

Here's a shot of the body work in progress.

Spot priming before the full coat.

With the full primer on it tucked back in the shop at the end of the day....with accent colors complements of the Oklahoma sun set!

And a side shot.

Re: 16' Nescher ski boat complete restore

Here is tonight progress...I need to work on my clauses.....working in an office has ruined them! My fingers are SORE from all the sanding the last few days by hand with a block. The prime coat blocked out pretty good, still have a lot of touch up, but not bad for the first coat.....especially considering what I started with on the bottom.

IMG_2931.jpg

I managed to get about a 1/3 of it blocked out tonight, hopefully I can get the rest done tomorrow night and prime on Saturday.
