    We did a thing...

Really nice pup! Both our dogs and all of our cats are rescue pets. Each has a story. Too many stories to tell! And yeah, we too have spent many thousands on vet bills. You wouldn't believe how thick our folder is at the vet's office! We have even brought stray cats to the vet for health...

When to change the steering cable

I knew my cable had to be replaced when it literally took two hands to turn the steering wheel. It was really really tough to turn it. I also have power steering with hydraulic actuator. Mine is a 18 ft bow rider with a 4.3L Mercruiser. If you need to replace it, you will be replacing the...

    Trailer surge brakes

No doubt, disc brakes are far superior to drum brakes, hands down. I guess it would also have a lot to do with the weight of your trailer. My boat/trailer, etc is probably under 4,000 pounds and the electric drums are working great for me. After all, it came from the factory with (surge)...

    Trailer surge brakes

I dumped my surge brakes for all electric and love them. No more hydraulic lines, bleeding of brakes, bad wheel cylinders, etc. Plus my master cylinder looked corroded and most likely needed replacement. To me it seemed my system was too far in disrepair. I also hated that slapping noise...

    Boat ramp courtesy

Adding to the driver's license discussion... Whenever I take a test drive at my local car dealer, they always copy my driver's license. If your buying a car without taking a test drive....well....I won't comment on that....

    Boat ramp courtesy

Ramp etiquette is based on common courtesy and common sense, both of which are unfortunately uncommon! Then there's just plain stupidity and lack of manners. @Gettnreel , is this just a rhetorical question or are you looking for pointers? If you're looking for pointers, we can help with that.

"Christmas staff fund charge" on my marina bill?

Take any open spot? How are you supposed to know if a spot is not bring used? What if a spot is open, but the person is out on their boat?

"Christmas staff fund charge" on my marina bill?

Agree, they should not have tried to sneak in that surcharge. It would have been a better practice if they placed a note or a Christmas card with your bill suggesting a tip. But, also $20 is not that big of a loss and it might get you a little better attention, especially when you are not...

Can you change from welded to bolted?

Bring it to a welder. Or, if you're handy, get yourself a welding machine and a good auto darkening helmet, gloves etc. and learn to weld. It takes some practice, but It comes in handy once in a while.

    My winter cover solution

A friend of mine made a wooden "A" frame that sits over his boat and is covered with tarps. 3 or 4 "A" frames with a long piece of lumber across the top. The tarps are draped over the "A" frame and the ends are held to the ground with rocks, concrete blocks, stakes or whatever you have. Snow...

Jack up the bow while boat is on the trailer ...

I vote for parking it on a steep hill while still attached to your vehicle. I had a little bit of water left in my bilge from pulling the plugs for winterizing. Most of it ran out the garboard drain hole, but some stayed even though my trailer jack was maxed out. I thought about lifting it...

    facebook and all the misinformation

I dunno, I guess it's like a drug for a lot of people. An addiction. If most would just not use FB, tic-tock or Twitter, maybe each of them would become less relevant. It will never happen though because most people are just sheep.

1988 mercruiser alpha 1 gen 1 steering issues

I'm not sure from your original explanation if you disconnected the cable from the actuator to see if the problem was the cable. Disregard if you already ruled this out. Mine was like yours, so tight I needed two hands to turn the wheel. I thought it was old grease at the actuator, but when I...

What do I check next on overheating issue?

Great explanation by @Lou C . Just another thought... Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it is possible to install the impeller with the vanes facing the wrong way. However, I believe you had this problem before changing the impeller, so it's likely not that.

What do I check next on overheating issue?

I'm far from an expert, but here's some things I can think of.... Is it truly overheating? How are you judging that? Not that I'm doubting you, but we need to look at all aspects. The gauges on our boats can sometimes be inaccurate. Overheating is definitely a big deal and not to be taken...

    Humility

Growing up in the 60's it seemed like there was a launch every month. Good ole' Walter Cronkite was always the announcer. Good times.

    Jay Leno sustained burns.....

I looked it up and apparently one of his vintage autos caught fire. One side of his face got burned. He said his eye and ear are OK.

    Jay Leno sustained burns.....

Dang, that sucks. I hope he'll be OK. Burns are bad news. I saw an article that said he had some sort of medical emergency. They speculated it was related to his heart. The news outlets never seem to get things right. I've had more than one personal event that were incorrectly reported, so I...

Dual Battery ... Wiring fail or I just don't understand?

I also don't see the need to keep bringing a battery home for charging. If you turn the battery switch to off, you should be good for quite a while. The solar charger idea is a good suggestion. It certainly can't hurt.

First time winterizing 4.3 mercruiser, alpha one.

Wow, that's crazy! Air don't freeze, but causes rust! Scary!
