    Motor dies then won't start

Have you checked for spark when it's acting up?

Tilt & Trim - how to release pressure

This particular set-up does not have a valve to release the pressure. You can remove the lines from the tilt cylinder and lift the motor. Be aware that when you lift the motor, hydraulic oil will squirt out from the tilt cylinder and maybe the lines themselves.

    1990 150hp force trim & tilt

At the very top of the Force and Chrysler Forum, you will see topic called "Force & Chrysler FAQ and other great information" Under that topic listed at the very bottom, you will see two threads. One titled "Force 3-wire Tilt and Trim system with shock absorber system "test & repair"...

Glad you got it running and thanks for letting everyone know what you did to fix it.

    1990 Force 50HP

Sounds like it's running too lean. Might be the carburetor like you mentioned, but also check the fuel lines themselves and the gas tank. If the tank has one of those quick connect fittings, sometimes they go bad and will not allow proper fuel flow. Make sure the fuel pick up tube in the...

    98’ Mercury Force starting issues

If the solenoid is clicking, but starter is not engaging, that often means that there is not enough current/voltage being supplied to the starter. Check all of your battery connections, including the ground cable that is bolted to the engine block. Don't just do a visual check. Disconnect...

    89 125 force

The clutch dogs are in the center of the gears. It is not the teeth on the outer perimeter of the gears. There are 3 square teeth in the center hub of the gears. These are the clutch dogs.

    89 125 force

Some of the on-line auction sites have some factory manuals from time to time. You might be able to eliminate the problem by adjusting, however, there's a good chance the clutch dogs in the lower unit are rounded and the gears are jumping, which causes a sudden jerk. The more pressure you place...

    Water in Fuel Starting Issues

If you ran it low, you may have contaminated the fuel lines and carbs. Do you have any in-line filters on the fuel line (other than the factory screen on the fuel pump) ?

    Low Compression on Cylinder #2

Looks like top edge of the piston has a divot or chunk missing. Kind of hard to tell from the video. If there is a small divot, that is usually a broken ring.

85hp force will not start. Fuel not getting to cylinders.

The seal pictured in post number 10 is the crankcase seals for each cylinder. They go on the crankshaft. Very easy to break if you're not careful. You need two of them. The purpose of this seal is to isolate the crankcase for each cylinder from each other so the crankcase chamber for each...

1997 Force 120 Idle Will Not Settle Down

Are the throttle plates in the carbs pretty much closed? Can you move the cam with your fingers to close the throttle plates more? The throttle plates should open and close in sync. If the cam is not touching the roller in neutral, I would think that there is something hanging up the linkage...

    Can't get flywheel off!!

Careful use of a propane torch to heat up the flywheel around the hole. Also when you get the grade 8 bolts evenly tightened up, hit the top of the big bolt on your puller with a hammer like you're driving the bolt downward. Hit it hard, no wimpy taps. This will shock the joint where the...

    Cyl Head

You can look at the pistons and rings by taking the By-Pass covers off. Each cover has 4 bolts. Once the cover is off, you can gently push on the rings to see if you have some movement. If not, then the ring is frozen in the groove. Worn cylinder and rings seems to be the most common reason...

Carbs rebuilt, fast idle. '95 120hp

Might try adjusting the idle speed screw. The red arrow is pointing at the idle speed adjustment screw. There is a lock nut that you have to loosen to adjust and tighten up when done to keep from vibrating loose.

    89 Force 125hp L Drive Issue

Water from the spark plugs is usually the head cover leaking. There is no gasket, so I use a high quality silicone sealer. Permatex Ultra grey works well. You typically don't need to mill the head for this type of leak. Unfortunately, the head bolts, plus 4 bolts down the center of the head...

    #4 cyl no fuel

I would suspect that there is a problem with the ignition system for #4 spark plug. Check the distributor cap, rotor, wires etc.

    Serial Number - Force 70HP

You were told correctly. On a sticker that is located on the transom mount. If it's missing, you can get pretty close if you can show pictures of the ignition system. They made the 70HP from 1991 - 1995

    99 Force 120 hp

The roller itself is round. I think that the shaft of the screw that goes through it is ground offset so that you can move the roller closer or further away from the linkage by turning the screw, then tighten the nut to hold it in place.

    1990 Force....couple issues

Looks like the plunger for the choke solenoid might be sticking too far out. Loosen the clamp around the choke body and move it up a bit so not as much of the plunger is exposed. See if that helps. Also could be the choke solenoid is bad.
