I have a 1990 50hp Force engine that has been sitting a for years. Gas tank cleaned, new fuel line with bulb. Took apart the filter and cleaned all. Replaced the fuel pump diaphragm. Took carburetor apart and cleaned/rebuilt. Engine now starts and runs but won't keep idling unless I push the choke closed about every 3-5 seconds. Air fuel screw in all the way and out 1-1/2 turns. water pump also was replaced as well as a bad thermostat. Figure it is probably in the carb but hate to tear into it again if there is some adjustment I'm missing. Possibly a linkage adjustment? Any thoughts or linkage adjustment procedures that could help? Thanks in advance.

Few pictures I thought might help identify.

Sounds like it's running too lean. Might be the carburetor like you mentioned, but also check the fuel lines themselves and the gas tank.

If the tank has one of those quick connect fittings, sometimes they go bad and will not allow proper fuel flow.

Make sure the fuel pick up tube in the tank is not plugged up.

If the fuel lines are old, they might have come apart internally and plugged up the needle valve in the carburetor. It's a good idea to install an in-line fuel filter between the fuel pump and carburetor.

Make sure the primer bulb if working properly. It should get noticeably firmer if you squeeze it 3 or 4 times. If it doesn't, it's either bad, or the needle valve in the carburetor isn't seating properly due to crud between the needle valve and seat, bad needle valve, or float not adjusted properly.

Glad you got it running and thanks for letting everyone know what you did to fix it.
