    120 Force Starting Issues

If the engine does not turn over 300 rpm cranking the magnetos won't fire.

    120 Force Starting Issues

Have you tried a new starter? Not one of the cheap Chinese ones for a few bucks, a US made (in Pensacola) Arco

Carburetor stud spins when trying to tighten 97 15

If there are threads left you can try cleaning the hole of any oil etc (I mean really clean) and use Loctite Quick Metal to reform the threads and "glue" the threads back in place. Also you can install a Helicoil if that does not work for you.

    1993 40hp force Loose Wire.

That is the standard wire color codes and if the horn is there or not the switch would be the same. Depending on the boat setup I would put one in where I could hear it if the motor were to overheat.

    1993 40hp force Loose Wire.

That is the thermoswitch, but I doubt it goes to the kill switch. Rather It usually goes to the overheat warning horn. The Thermoswitch wire is Tan and Green it attaches to a tan and Blue wire that goes to the #3 plug that goes to the front. Usually there is a horn either in the binnacle or...

    Timing Question

You are correct in that it will not reach the highest RPM, but you can see that the timing is tracking at higher than cranking speed. With the Sport Jet the engine will normally rev just about like it would moving under power. In that case you are just pumping water through the jet. Best would...

    Timing Question

It is important to verify the actual running timing (tied to the dock or with a safety pilot etc. as the components of the bias circuit may have changed over the life of the boxes and they might be bad or ? Anyway here is an excerpt from the Sport Jet manual for the 90, 95 and 120 hp Force...

    Timing Question

It could conceivable go either way a little bit, but if I remember correctly id you set the timing at cranking speed at 32 it backs up to 30 running WOT, but I may remember that backwards so check to be sure. That is for the 90/95/120 hp Sport Jet engines and is close for the other Force motors...

    Timing Question

Actually the rpm does make difference as as the speed increases the voltage build up is higher and faster getting to the trigger point of the SCRs in the CDI. This build up is counteracted by the bias circuit that rectifies the trigger signal and inverts it to keep the trigger voltage from...

    Carb bowl leaking

I put a little of the Hylomar Blue on both sides of the cork gasket to help seal. Also make sure the bowl is not bent a little. Perhaps the center where the screw goes through is pushed in a little and maybe massaging that might help.

    Carb bowl leaking

Are you sure that the needle valve is shutting off the fuel flow when the bowl is at the proper level? I have uses a small bead of Hylomar Blue to seal the gasket. It does not "Cure" and get hard and is fuel proof. Don't use enough to have it squeeze out into the bowl.

Let us know how it worked out!

Often there is a discussion and helpful suggestions offered on a problem and the original poster just disappears and we never find out if any of the suggestions worked for them. It would be nice for us to know what did finally work or if nothing worked. Just a friendly request - Tell us how it...

Why would the electrode on a spark plug get smashed

Piston hitting the electrode caused this. Gasket squeezed too flat? Rods stretched? Block or head surfaced? Reed valve passing over the piston?

1995 Bayliner Capri 1800ls force 120hp temperature sensor? Help

Possibly the tan with blue wire that comes out of the boat harness where it plugs into the motor harness? If I remember correctly it is in parallel with the low oil sensor on the later engines and is not a temp sensor, but rather a temperature switch that sounds the overheat warning horn at the...

Top piston worth replacing? (120hp low compression)

I use Hylomar blue. It is fuel resistant and is actually reuseable. The polymer "sets and fills voids and is easily disassembled. It does not set like RTV as it just seals. Rolls Royce uses it in their Jet engines.
