    1996 Force 90hp flywheel

Looks correct to me as it has the raised ring around the hub internally threaded for the puller. The early one is flat on the top. see post above.

Erratic Timing Light Reading on '96 Force 120

Try the other leads, remembering that they flash at different places around the flywheel. You may have an intermittent timing light or trigger coil or wire. They are small wires and cab break under the insulation.

    1996 Force 90hp flywheel

Look for late model engines with the CDM modules. The flywheels have a different hub size and magnet arrangement for the trigger and coil. The older flywheels have a flat top and the one you are looking for has a raised ring around the hub that is threaded for the puller. The earlier flat...

Recommendation on Force Sealant for Crank

I use Hylomar blue. If it is good enough for Rolls Royce jet engines it is good enough for me. Permatex sells it as #8520 Gasket dressing

    1991 Force 90hp starting problem

The seals mentioned in the part about the fuel pump. I assume that they seal between the pump and the crankcase or transfer port?

    1991 Force 90hp starting problem

How can you get a few of those tiny seals? This may be the problem with my hard starting on my Sport Jet 90 hp with the mercury style fuel pump. I do have an electric priming pump installed and priming makes no difference as it often takes a shot of starting fluid when cold. Warm and it usually...

    73 Chrysler 85hp won't start

If you have compression and ignition the only thing keeping it from starting when starting fluid is sprayed in might be timing? Look at the link and sync information at the top of this page. Also are the plugs showing any indication of fuel (a little 2 stroke oil on them?) Compression, ignition...

1994 Force 120 Thunderbolt ignition Tachometer hook up.

You would need a tach for a 20 pole motor The gray wire from the regulator is the wire. If there is not a gray wire one of the yellow ones will do. It measures the A/C pulses from the stator. Faria made one for the force outboards.

    E85 in Chrysler outboard?

I wonder what has to happen to the jetting in the carbs. Most of the E-85 compatible engines these days are electronic fuel injection that correct the mixture. I have a Chrysler Town and Country that is compatible and have not run the high ethanol, but I think that it produces less power on...

    Wiring diagram?

I brought up the CDM as he said it had Mercury electronics. Would the older be the Force?. Either way I am pretty sure that #9 is the thermoswitch. Several people have installed the CDMs as I have on my '95 90 hp Sport Jet.

    Wiring diagram?

#9 could be the overheat switch on the head. Also what Mercury electronics are you using? If you are using CDM modules the bias circuit is built in the trigger assy and not tin the CDI like the older units. This means that the timing will advance more as the rpm increases. The trigger coils...

1989 Force 85 HP Starter Disengages

Keep the old starter (original) as the new ones from China are crap. clean it up and install new brushes etc.

    1991 Force 90hp starting problem

Make sure the timing is correct for all cylinders. #1 at ~0 #2 at 1/3 of the way clockwise and #3 at 2/3 clockwise. If the leads are swapped the thing is not going to run and will kick back. Move your induction timing clamp to each in turn. Also you could have a bad trigger. Also it looks like...

    89 force 50 lift ring

Just a hint here. If you get one of the cheaper pullers make sure you have a good fit for the bolts. Swapping whatever is in the kit for grade 8 bolts would be a good idea, along with grade 8 washers. Also get a tap to clean out the threads so that you can get full engagement. Don't take a...

    Tips for Re-Installing a Flywheel?

As an old Scottish Maintenance Engineer once told me about tapered fits (this was on an Alfa Romeo steering wheel) that was dealing me fits. He said, "Just a we drop of oil and she'll neverrrrrr come off"

125 Force Outboard won’t achieve full power

A tee in the fuel line for a pressure gauge will tell you a lot. Low fuel flow that limits power means that the mixture might be lean and that could mean burned pistons. I check for spark on all cylinders using my induction timing light to see that enough current is being dumped into the plug to...

Best gasoline octane for old Chrysler Outboards

My point is advancing the timing to save fuel might cost you a piston or two. If saving fuel is a priority then perhaps a 4 cycle outboard would be indicated, but then they are expensive too. I operate a Hobie Jet Fisherman with basically a 90 hp Force motor. I rebuilt the motor, twice. The...

    89 force 50 lift ring

I bought a nut to fit my 90 hp Sport Jet and welded a steel strap loop from one side to the other.

    1995 Force 50 Turns over, doesn’t start

Borrow an induction timing light and pull the plugs so that it will spin faster. Check the timing. It should be around 9 * at idle and 28 30* at full throttle. Look for fuel/oil coming out of the plug holes. Ground the spark plug leads to protect the coils from too high voltage. If it will not...
