    Low Compression

With all 6 cylinders reading about the same, are you sure it's not simply your gauge reading low? Maybe your compression is fine but you have something else going on?

1989 Mercury Blackmax 150 no spark

No. If you do that you won't be able to turn the motor off from the key. You would need to troubleshoot to find out why the black/yellow wire is being grounded.

Urgent Help needed: Mercury 2002 50ELPT0, Must see picture to understand issue, but don't know how to fix

There is a screw below the cam roller (the round black plastic piece) that locks it to the carb throttle backet. It looks like it came loose and is now at max open position. You may get away with moving the cam roller back over till it almost contacts the lever and tightening the lock screw...

    2005 Merc 115 EFI 4 Stroke - No Power

I know that automotive fuel injectors can be removed and sent to companies that specialize in rebuilding them. It's usually a fraction of the cost of new injectors. Not sure if they accept outboard motor injectors.

1996 Merc 125 ELPTO - Bog down after WOT

You can tilt the engine from the bow? When would you need that functionality? It's sounds like a wiring connection issue to the controller. Tilt down works so that means the control is getting 12v. The controller should be putting 12v on the blue/white wire to activate the trim up solenoid.

    Mercury 35 hp outboard timing

Try pumping the primer bulb when it happens. Does it pick back up? Maybe fuel pump then.

1985 Mercury 85hp (4 cyl) runs great for 20 minutes then boggs down

I don't want to hijack the thread but am curious about the "throttle pickup point timing". The manual for my Merc (4 cylinder) does not state the pickup point in timing degrees. It only references it to the throttle cam location. Is it not as critical on the 4 cylinder motors?

1996 Merc 125 ELPTO - Bog down after WOT

That's the way electrical issues usually start. They go "intermittent" first due to a bad connection. It can be temperature or vibration that may cause it to act up and then mysteriously fix itself. Pegged gauges definitely indicates a serious electrical issue. Maybe a bad ground connection?

1996 Merc 125 ELPTO - Bog down after WOT

First thing to check is your battery connections. Power to the starter and tilt comes from the battery. The power to run the spark plugs comes from the magneto. The rectifier is between the battery and the magneto. Maybe the rectifier going bad? Does your boat have a volt meter gauge? What...

1996 Merc 125 ELPTO - Bog down after WOT

A collapsing primer bulb would indicate a blocked fuel line to the tank or a block tank vent. If the bulb is fine but when you pump it the rpms pick up, that would indicate a fuel pump issue.

1996 Merc 125 ELPTO - Bog down after WOT

That looks like it. It has one extra gasket that mine doesn't have (the one on the top left) but my motor is older than yours.

1996 Merc 125 ELPTO - Bog down after WOT

Sounds like it might be getting starved for fuel. Did you check the state of the primer bulb when it happens? Was it collapsing? What happens if you squeeze the bulb when it happens? If the fuel pump was never rebuilt, it should probably be done regardless.

    high idle

That would not cause a high idle. A problem with the primer bulb would cause a loss of fuel to the motor causing it to quit running.

Mariner 45hp Carburetor Leaking after Total Rebuild....stumped!

Maybe it depends how much is leaking? I don't recall any of the carbs on my merc leaking. Maybe a very small amount? OP, besides the leaking, how is the motor running? How do the spark plugs look? Are they fouled excessively?

Merc Outboard - 2 Year Old Engine Failure, 5 Year Extended Warranty Denied

I have to say, and I know many won't agree with this. It's best to never let anyone touch your motors. My main motor was perfect till I took it to the dealer for a 100 hour maintenance. It never ran the same after that plus they broke the prop. It took me forever to get the motor running...

    high idle

Is the timing control arm against the stop? It should be when at idle. That's the first thing to check.

Johnson 55HP Idle Screw Not Returning in Neutral!

You need to have somebody operate the throttle while you look at the cable and the linkage to see what is binding. It does not help to have the motor running while you troubleshoot this issue.
