Motor has no power under load

I have a 1988 100 hp (upgraded to a 115). The motor always reved up like that. I was told by the dealer not to run it at that rpm so I never hold it there. There is no rev limiter mentioned in the factory manual. Perhaps it was added to later models? I never heard of piston skirts breaking...

need some help on base timing on a 2003 mercury 125 2+2 outboard

Base timing is supposed to be set to make the engine idle at about 650 rpm. So base timing is not set to a timing spec. It's set to an rpm. Max timing is set to a timing spec. On mine (I have an older model) I believe it's 25 BTDC.

Motor has no power under load

I don't believe those motors have a rev limiter. It does automatically retard the timing a little at high rpm. Not sure if that is meant to limit revs. Mine revs past 6K.

NO SPARK 1988 mercury 100HP outboard Sea Ray seville

Also try disconnecting the black/yellow kill wire then test for spark. Edit - sorry Chris already mentioned that.

    CDI High Speed Failure

My 88 100hp does not have a voltage regulator. Came that way from the factory. While running at any speed past idle the voltage climbs to almost 16 volts. My battery is a cheap Walmart brand that is over 8 years old and still going strong. That high charging voltage does not seem to be...

    slow drop on T&T, 1982 50 hp

My 88 100hp has been doing that for years. I just got used to it. It's not really worth it to me to go through the hassle fixing. As long as it tilts up and down, that's all I really need.

2002 Merc saltwater series 125 hp

The stator has a low and high speed windings. Could be the high speed is not working. As Scott posted, by the manual. It has a step-by-step ignition troubleshooting process.

NGK BUHW 2622 spark plug replacement?

Agreed. Due to the design of these "gapless" spark plugs there is little to no wear. You only need to clean them off and reuse. I clean mine annually to keep head thread wear to a minimum.

60hp Mercury 2-stroke oil injection pump leakage

Yeah. You should be able to get away with leaving the old pump on. You should remove the oil tank and all the oil hoses. Cap off the oil port going to the fuel pump. Maybe you could make your own cover plate out of a small piece of aluminum?

Mixture screw adjustment and explanation on 2003 mercury 125 2+2

The procedure is to adjust both idle mixture screws for best idle. Then try throttle up acceleration tests in the water (not on a hose). If there is any hesitation, turn both screws counterclockwise 1/4 turn. Then repeat acceleration test.

Mixture screw adjustment and explanation on 2003 mercury 125 2+2

The mixture screws are for fuel idle mixture and are only present on the top two carbs. 1.5 turns is the starting point but should be tuned individually to provide a smooth idle and also a smooth transition when you throttle up. The bottom two carbs have a fixed idle mixture that only provides...

60hp Mercury 2-stroke oil injection pump leakage

Mine did that too. I ended up getting a used oil pump off ebay for cheap. It came off a newer motor than mine and has been working well for about 10 years now. I'm sure a lot of people will advise you to cap it off and premix. That would work too but I like the convenience the pump provides...

Easy way to fix a bad bleed valve?

My 1988 Merc 100 hp 4 cylinder seems to have a clogged bleed valve on the #2 cylinder. It causes a rough idle. These bleed valves are located on the crankshaft. Does anyone know of an easier way to get to these other than pulling the powerhead and completely tearing down the motor? Also, I...

Looking for lower unit drain/vent plug gaskets

1988 Mercury 100HP Looking for lower unit drain/vent plug gaskets. I know this motor is old but these should be the most common replacement items needed. Shouldn't be that hard to find. Anybody have a part number for a kit that includes the drain plug gasket and two vent plug gaskets? Thanks

    Mercury 80hp pop/backfire out exhaust

Sounds like lean pop to me. The fact that you are getting different results on the top cylinder could mean the top carb is running lean.

Can't get over 2k on water

One thing you can try that's easy to do and might give you a clue. Get the boat on the water and make it do it then push in the key engaging the enrichner/choke. If the rpm jumps you know it's a lean carb issue
