    196X Starcraft Mariner 16

Welcome junkman! Nice save from someones junk pile. Im no expert but the console, transom, and those side hatch doors all look like PO work to me. Nice boat you have though. Turning it back into a fishing boat? 1/2” ply was what starcraft originally used, nothing wrong with that. Just dont...

    Rear casting deck builds

If I put a rear casting deck in, I would design it like the modern boats do. It would require modifying your splash well. Make the SW smaller and centered, drop its height to the lowest point of the transom. Then build the deck around the SW and out as far as you want. See pic below and note...

    Leaking at a rivet

Watching the bilge pump run for minutes at full blast was something to see. But I put a blind rivet with sealant in that hole and used it a few more times that summer. Im on a medium sized lake though, never more than a minute from any shoreline. If I had an automatic bilge installed I would...

    Leaking at a rivet

I wouldnt use flexseal, bedliner, or a 2-part epoxy for a temporary blind rivet fix. 5200 is your best bet and you will need it anyway in the future for a proper fix. Goop works but comes off easier and is a one-part sealant. Just remember that solid rivets are structural, so using a blind...

    1979 Starcraft 16’ SS Refresh

A day full of smiles is all you can ask for!! Lake was beautiful today. Stayed calm and glassed until late afternoon. Not very crowded either as most the out-of-towners head home on Sundays. Next lake we go to will be a new one way up high where there is stunning scenery and lots of big...

    1979 Starcraft 16’ SS Refresh

Went on a blitz today in the heat so I am not only done working on the boat for the lake tomorrow, but done working on it for the summer! I cut around 4” off the bimini cause I always thought it looked too tall. Found out my bimini mounting brackets were off by around 2” from the PO, and...

    Center console project

The foam doesnt hold much heat from what Ive noticed. Great to walk on barefoot, stuff is damn near indestructible. Just doesnt like gasoline (will bubble) or oil (stains). Im sure theres a way to get the potato chip oil stains from the kids out of mine lol. I was anti-carpet so my floor is...

    Glue for kneeboard pad

Hey y’all, My neighbor is pretty awesome. He sold his boat years ago and is now slowly cleaning out his garage. Gave us some kids skis and a knee board. Both are in great shape minus the pad (foam covered in nylon) for the kneeboard which is separating from the board (epoxy) itself. Looking...

Mercury 75hp on aluminum 16’ Starcraft

@airshot I have no problem telling people where to sit and what to do. Their other option is swimming. 35mph would be fast enough for me. Im happy anywhere from 30-35. @flyingscott It is not the big foot. The prop for my motor is for the standard gear case. 4.25” hub exhaust, 2.07 gear...

Mercury 75hp on aluminum 16’ Starcraft

Dang @airshot I would not expect a 4 cylinder 2-stroke to weigh so little. Those must be small cylinders!! Considering I was 7 when that motor was built, its no surprise I havent seen one. Wasnt calling you a liar, I was just in disbelief. So weight distribution…. All there is to move...

    Leaking at a rivet

Correct fix is replace the leaking rivets with new solid rivets. Short term fix is put a blind rivet in there covered in goop or some other sealant. Then keep an eye on it. Wont be as structurally strong but should stop the leaks.

    198x SS-150 rebuild

Ah yes it would have to be removed. Doubt you could do it while still attached. So rivets may not work. If welding wont work either then SS bolts would be the only choice left.

Mercury 75hp on aluminum 16’ Starcraft

Thanks @jimmbo Ive read all about the cup rake shape thickness dia etc and everything seems to be a big IF hahaha. Thats a cool avatar pic of the boat flying out of the water. In a nutshell, basically I just need to try a prop and see if it works cause theres no way to accurately guess which...
