    1979 Starcraft 16’ SS Refresh

1/4” rivets holding the main structure are done. The little corner braces with 3/16” rivets just need to be hammered in. It weighs virtually nothing but is very strong. A few more things will be riveted on - a french cleat in the back of frame, and 2 fold down legs for the front corners...

    1972 18 FT Starcraft SS

Awesome!! Fit of that wood looks nice. I made the mistake of reusing some of that original aluminum to tie the floors together. Not thick enough. 1/8” is stout. What kind of foam you putting under the floor? Pour or sheets?

    1978 SS 16 restoration

I’ll put the gator glide on the list for the resto 2.0 in the far future. Had I know sooner I would have done it instead of paint on the bottom. The jack plate would be nice as well. Will be a while before I have the boat tokens for that haha. Which one do you have? My motor is now a brand...

    1978 SS 16 restoration

Interesting how you said trim doesnt make much difference cause mine is the same. Feels like the boat is driving the nose down and just wants speed. You have a little more weight than me, but distributed very similarly. I am a little heavier towards the bow. Major differences being the plate...

    1978 SS 16 restoration

Learning about prop design is definitely a mind bender due to there being so many factors. This website had a decent article on props. https://boattest.com/view-news/4226_do-your-props-have-the-right-cup-rake-slip-pitch-and-hub At least you know your baselines so going from there helps a...

    1978 SS 16 restoration

Hmmm you may not get much more out of the motor by changing the pitch, hard to say without trying. Doesnt sound like SS is wise if you know there are rocks around. Never heard of these hulls breaking 40mph!! My new merc 75 is getting me to 35mph in slight chop. Trying a turning point...

    1979 Starcraft 16’ SS Refresh

Had the boat out on one of the largest reservoirs in the state last weekend, one that was warmer and lower in elevation. Our local lakes are full but the airs still a little cold for family time on high mountain lakes. In the meantime Ive been doing some work. My front hitch post was meant...

    1978 SS 16 restoration

Last time we were out was the first time the boat got no attention. Probably because we were at a big lake with people who had $200,000 wake surfing boats lol. Comes with the territory of restoring these old gems! If you want to eke some more performance out of your motor, a stainless prop...

    1976 22' SUS O/B "Hydration Break"

Looks great! I like the idea of coat-it on the transom. Should absolutely prevent corrosion and add some integrity. That stuff is so tough. You should have a leak free boat when you’re done.

    1972 18 FT Starcraft SS

Entire bottom of hull below the waterline, which is unnecessary actually, was coated on mine. But my hull was in good shape, no pinholes or corrosion, just had a bunch of rivets that popped due to (PO2) hitting a log. PO coated it all. Then I coated all the rivets on the inside below waterline.

    1972 18 FT Starcraft SS

Awesome! I will say Im not disappointed with the coat-it on mine. It makes it ugly to paint unless you sand it down. Same with removal - paint remover didnt even phase it. Sanding it off is the only way to remove it. The PO of my boat coated the whole underside of the hull, which coat-it...

    1972 18 FT Starcraft SS

Thats a lot of gluvit! Are you coating the whole bottom? Think I only used 2 pints of coat-it, same thing, and still had some leftover just hitting each rivet with a splotch, plus seams. Just keep the can covered with some plastic wrap or it will start to thicken on you as you work.

We should get you moved over to the Starcraft boat section. Bunch of tinheads there to help you out who are very familiar with these boats. Overall she is in great shape! The strake being the worst, does the hole go all the way through the hull?? Either way its patchable. The strakes are...

1969 Super Sport 16 Single Console Conversion

Nice work! It does look like an old fishing machine, with lots of years left to go. A previous owner (PO) definitely did some custom hack work to your boat but thats alright. The road sign is actually good aluminum for boat building, worth saving. When you replace the floors down the line...

    1979 Starcraft 16’ SS Refresh

Thanks guys! Admiral definitely wanted to be comfortable. Since I have a front casting deck the bow seats just sit on the hydroturf floor. One thing I didnt like about starcrafts original setup with the aisle was the skinny bow seats and smaller backrest. So I made mine console width, left a...

    1979 Starcraft 16’ SS Refresh

Took the family out on the lake today, my second mate’s first time on the water. She had a great time! Over the last week Ive been doing some work. Front bow hand rails, new front nav light (old one failed), cleaned up wiring, and finally finished the bow seating as Id always wanted it...

    1975 SS160 weight?

To answer your questions about your weight with trailer…. Just guessing here. Trailer - guess weight since I dont know how big yours is. Hull - 450 Floor - 100 Fuel - 50-100 Seats, steering wheel, etc - 50 Batteries - 100 Motor - 250 Trolling motor - 75 If your trailer is under 500 lbs you...

    1975 SS160 weight?

I was just running numbers for my new prop and I believe what you’re figuring is correct. Bare hull though should only be around 450lbs I think. But capacity is 900, so total with all gear, motor, people, everything - 1,500 lbs. Thats how the illegible plate reads at least.
