    Building a '93 Caravelle 1750 Classic Bowrider

I got started sewing the first cover. I needed the top bolster cover first, and that proved to be difficult because it was so small. I had jam after jam until I saw that the thread had gone slack and jumped out of the tensioner. Finally got the settings right, but struggled for quite a while...

    '90 Maxum 2100SR - restoration & conversion

Nice work on the scarf joints. It's a shame they will be hidden. At least you have photos of them on the internet, eh? I wish I had known that trick with the transom holes when I did mine. Not easy to seal them otherwise. Thoughts on transom gluing: When I set my transom in, I wetted the...

Engines an I have allot in common. When we are asleep, we drool, and vent gasses. But when we wake up, the drooling and venting stops.

I think that is called the Venturi Effect. Air flowing over the vents draws air out. The low pressure in the engine compartment is replaced by air from the interior of the boat, I assume?

    Building a '93 Caravelle 1750 Classic Bowrider

The odd thing about this boat, and all of the Caravelle boats from early 90s onward is that both vents are rear-facing. So I fail to see how any fresh air is forced in while underway with this setup. Earlier models had the louvers on the sides with one facing forward and one rearward. I will...

    Building a '93 Caravelle 1750 Classic Bowrider

Quick question... thinking back to the bilge blowers: once the engine is running, will the intake draw enough air to prevent fumes in the engine compartment? Is it safe at that point to shut the blowers off? The only time that gas fumes develop, barring a leak, is when the engine is off...

    Building a '93 Caravelle 1750 Classic Bowrider

The original vinyl was too brittle to unstitch ans use for patterns, so I have to make my own by temporarily gluing clear plastic to the foam and marking out the panels and seam allowances. I made patterns for one side and then checked them on the opposite side to maintain symmetry. I...

    Building a '93 Caravelle 1750 Classic Bowrider

The remaining foam came off easily with a wire cup wheel in an angle grinder. I spray-glued 1/2" foam to the back and rough trimmed it. Then came the 1" foam on the inside. The edges were then trimmed using an electric knife. Next, 1" foam strips were cut and glued to the edges.

    Nothing in my Profile works...still

Ever since I joined, I have not been able to add a profile pic, nor even change my password because nothing in my Profile section is clickable. I can click Done Editing and Save and that's it. The Support button doesn't even work. In the beginning, I tried adding a profile pic, which is...

Why do we leave a gap under the stringers?

Why do we leave a gap between the hull and the replacement stringer when bedding them in with peanut butter or PL?

Mystery Throttle Control_How does this mount?

One part of my basket case '93 Caravelle 1750 BR restoration project is the controls. I have not been able to identify the brand and model, much less find instructions for how they mount to the side of the boat All of the interior was ripped out before I got it, so I have nothing to go by. I've...

Bought this boat with no prop. Where to start?

1993 Caravelle 1750 Classic Bowrider. 17' long. 1982 Mercruiser 140 4 cyl with OMC Cobra 3.0 outdrive. I plan to use it for general lake cruising with occasional knee board towing, etc. I need suggestions for what diameter, pitch and number of blades to use as a starting point. I suppose I could...

    Building a '93 Caravelle 1750 Classic Bowrider

I've always gone for the ridiculous projects because they can be the most rewarding when done. This boat will be no exception. The PO disassembled it and removed the rotten floor and stringers. It sat for five years and several small items were robbed off of it during that time. I ended up...
