    Redline 302 removal

you may want to mark the slip yoke so it goes back together in same place on the chance that it was balanced together like a driveshaft

Changing the U-Joint on an OMC Cobra Out Drive, OD

Haven't done this on a cobra but have on a couple of alpha ones. With that much corrosion I would think you are also going to have to replace or put a speedi sleeve on the input yoke to drive as if the seal isnt leaking now it will shortly. If you are paying someone it will likely be cheaper...

    Removing transom bolts Gen 2

Follow Bondos advice - penetrating oil like Kroil, heat and some paitence. yes of course it is a chance it can break or strip. If the aluminum thread gets messed up a helicoil or timesert thread insert can repair it

Gen 2 water and oil hose

The OEM hose for the water is 3/4 ID so in theory you can use heater hose but the oem hose is like $20, juice may not be worth the squeeze - #15 below https://www.marineengine.com/parts/mercruiser-sterndrive-parts/alpha-one-genii-1998-and-up/0l100040-up/bell-housing

exactly pitting on walls, crank and rods surfaces , valve seats too. Have seen heads get trashed because the seats get so rusty it cheaper to buy new cores than stick inserts in them

    Suggestions on LongBlock Supplier

Yes - when I bought a new base engine in 2015, the seller gave me $150 for my cracked (by previous owner) core... I'm sure they didn't try to repair the block , but I am sure the heads if passed magnafluxing would be inn someone's engine. Sure it can be done but I heard enough stories about...

2006 Monterey Boat with a 4.3L Mercruiser TKS Engine S/N 0w354897 Mysterious Loss of Power

yes it is possible but would test it out either my ohm testing the coil see if it is outside the range and use a spark gap tester. Only seen coils fail when the sensor in distributor leaks current so the coil is building up energy when there is no spark to be made... Also possible you have a...

Looking at their website the $1993 he mentions is for a 4.3 to the OP make sure you click the selection button on the engine detail- it goes up to $2800 for a 2008-15 version

2006 Monterey Boat with a 4.3L Mercruiser TKS Engine S/N 0w354897 Mysterious Loss of Power

Did you have spark when it died? suspect not given the staring fluid did fire off. Would check for spark and verify 12 v at positive terminal on coil when it happens

    Rusty u joints bravo 3

Yeah mine felt smooth but when I took the out the cross looked like this one one or two of the crosses on each joint. Some of the grease looked ok on the crosses that were not roached , the ones that were roaches the grease was dark…so much for permalube … by match them up you can take them out...

    What oil should I use?

As Lou said you don’t need so much zddp with a roller cam. Flat tapped different story. What you describe the 25-40 is fine. I found on long high rpm runs the oil pressure would get lower some times down to 40-45 psi at 4500 or more rpm. Was thinking maybe oil is foaming or getting more oil up...

Alpha one gen II leaking water near hydraulic hoses

100% my original bellows on my 2004 lasted 18 years, exhaust was torn bit shift and driveshaft did not leak... Why use anything but OEM unless you are selling the boat. To the OP as mentioned drop the trim manifold and replace the gasket. If the bellows haven't been done the winter offseason is...

    Rusty u joints bravo 3

Agreed I had pretty deep ridges on the u joints for my Alpha gen 2 but they felt smooth by hand. To the OP you can usually cross those U joints with an automotive one. I don't know the cross for bravo U joints but the ones with internal retaining rings for a alpha one are a moog 315G or...

    What oil should I use?

I meant than merc 25w -40. merc does make a 25w-50 that works great too (I think for the verado?) , its just expensive compared to getting mobil from wally world

    What oil should I use?

I have run Mobil 1. 15w-50 for years it’s seems to keep the oil pressure high on longer sustained high rpm runs Than rotella 15-40 or the merc 25w 50 in my opinion depends on how you use your boat. I tow watersports with a heavy load in the boat daily, spend a lot of time above 4 k rpm.

04 Sea Ray 180 Speedometer Question

I would not expect it to be consistently inaccurate. My current searay 200 sport 5.0 has shown at light load WOT trimmed out anywhere between 44 and 56 on the dreamometer, gps is consistently 46-48 To your point may prove out a are we 'in between the ditches' before and after. Just be careful...

04 Sea Ray 180 Speedometer Question

Don't get hung up on the in dash speedo , one of the most useless features on any boat, horribly inaccurate. Get a GPS app for your phone. Quite likely the 42 on the 'dreamometer' was inaccurate. So they swapped the engine - what are you getting in terms of WOT rpm? good to check the tach vs a...
