Boat leaking salt water - steering pin?

Common place for them to leak there are kits to jet the pin out from the outside so engine doesn’t have to come out

    Mercruiser Gear reduction and prop

in a nutshell Yes higher pitch will lower wot rpms, lower will increase holeshot and increase wot rpms. as mentioned above try the boat out and see where your wot rpm lands before doing anything. depending on if your engine is carbed (220 hp) or mpi (260 hp) It will have a range of 4400-4800 rpm...

    Mercruiser Gear reduction and prop

I would think even with a 1.62 ratio 23” pitch would be too much. you sure the 1.52R is nit actually a 1.62 that would make sense with the ratios which were 1.47, 1.62, 1.81, and 1.98 verify what the ratio is and try the boat out see what you get for wot rpm before playing with props. Really...

    Mercruiser Motor identification

Makes sense that they just put in a new long block. Surprised merc don’t take it back as a core. The issue you will run into is are the peripherals needed to make it a running engine are all proprietary parts. I’m assuming you were thinking it was vortec based? Maybe the factory intake could be...

Alpha one gen II leaking water near hydraulic hoses

The products like sea cast that are poured in are fine replacements once the wood is hogged out. You can find some vids where people do them cutting the wood out with a chainsaw, issue is you need to pour it in from the top which is easiest done on an outboard boat. you Likely can sell the...

    Mercruiser Motor identification

So someone replaced the long block in the ski boat? Looks like a water level line is half way up the oil pan ? as mentioned above this is after merc went away from GM based engines so nothing sbc with fit it and no aftermarket parts are available

Alpha one gen II leaking water near hydraulic hoses

Is the fiberglass bulged out an inch? Not sure how you wouldn’t hit rotten wood shavings . i would cut back the fiber glass and see what’s behind it . Possible it delaminated and wood is ok but is against the odds.

5.0 bravo 3 fresh water flush

What does your coolings system look like. I was assuming hose comes out of transom housing goes through power steering cooler then into the pump. Is your set up different?

5.0 bravo 3 fresh water flush

Might save space using a 3 way ball valve. You might also look at locating it back by the PS cooler where the water comes up from the drive. That way water would still go through the PS cooler while running.

Winterizing a Merc A1-G1 Block Question Antifreeze

then you should be fine. Most times I never got water out of my manifold drain when I had a 3.0 not sure if it siphoned out when draining the block or what. Easy engine to winterize with just the vent by the thermostat and the two drains - manifold and block. If you are worried the manifold...

Winterizing a Merc A1-G1 Block Question Antifreeze

If the block was originally emptied via the drain plug just above the oil pan rail then yes you are good. was that the plug that you could not clear or was it the one under the manifold that was clogged?

    Mercruiser 888

yes - if you look at how they rate the CFM of a 4 bbl vs a 2 bbl they use a higher vacuum to measure the cfm of a 2 bbl - 1.5" of mercury is used for 4bbls and 3 for 2 bbl carb. So and old school way to tell is to hook up a vacuum gauge at WOT of the carb is correctly sized vacuum will be down...

    Mercruiser 888

yes it is the equivalent of running while someone is choking you. As SD mentioned most 5 L engines need 400-500 cfm vs the 275 you have. I run a Edlebrock 1409 on my 5.0 chevy vortec and it is just about perfect size. Do you have a 4 bbl intake or is it 2 bbl.

    Frozen Block?

if you find one close a glass shop may be able to cut it. You will probably get sticker shock before this is done, they command big money and yo are basically out of options. Even if they still make the glass it will be more money.
