Poly or epoxy, not sure what to go with?

You can use any cloth with epoxy, but the backing doesnt dissolve, and becomes a resin sponge. I used 10-08 IIRC on the checkmate transom to build up thickness, but that was on top of multiple layers of 1700 for strength. Multiple thin single layers is stronger than less thicker layers as a rule...

Im sure any marine vinyl would be fine, given its inside the cabin, and not out in the elements, where something like Sunbrella would shine. Not sure what adhesive would stick to the plastic backer board tho.

Also, any imperfections in the cabin roof will telegraph thru non backed vinyl alot more than foam backed.

Well, for one thing, it helps when u hit your head ;)......it also seems to contour better on non flat surfaces, and helps with adhesive bleed thru. You could also consider standard vinyl wrapped over thin wood or foam panels, held in place with velcro or matching button top screws, if wiring...

The marine grade thing may just be mold/mildew resistance, and UV protection. I did see in the reviews someone used it on a motorcycle seat. You could always prtect is with something like this https://www.hulaboatcare.com/product/chill-mold-retardant/

They use the word suede in the description title, so not sure if it would be weather friendly. It doesnt look like suede tho, maybe order a small batch to see what its like? scratch that, suede is the color lol.

Poly or epoxy, not sure what to go with?

Ive been using epoxy exclusively for years and years, then one day I got sensitized out of the blue. Its the uncured hardener that get you. Now, even with long gloves, my hands look like a lizard with prolonged sessions. I still use it or vinyl ester as opposed to poly tho, but thats just me.

Nice Sam!, gonna enjoy watching this one. You'll love the rumble of the inboard with water running thru the transom exhaust. I start mine at the slip once in a while just to sit and listen, with a cigar and bourbon of course ;)

    insulation for a 1975 55' Kings Craft

the next step down from spray would be closed cell panels like the pink from HD or blue/green from Lowes. Thats what we use for basements and garages on coastal construction. cut to fit between the metal studs, spray "great stuff" in gaps, and tape seams.

Thanks for caring man lol, But now that you convinced me, Im gonna blame u if it goes wring anyway! :D I was never really a fan of painting outboards to match the boat, mostly cuz in the old days, it just look cheesy to me. Now it seems to be all the rage with oem going that way on higher end...

Good call on the weight thing, even with just canvas, After I added the radar, antennas, and ebox, I noticed significantly more roll under way and at rest. I always have to watch my beer when drifting ;) Maybe just a few closed cell foam "stringers" between skins?

That looks great, what clear is that?, the acrylic clear I have will probably effect the decal is why I hesitate. I just used Yamaha grey in a rattle can for the base so far.

I havnt clear coated mine yet, or put on the decals, just used it with the grey base this season. If yours works out, I may try it to, it will be easier to clean after use.

Gel coating boat bottom - Product

I use unwaxed gel, but with duratec added for cure and gloss. looking at the reviews, maybe the wax content in the product is insufficient. Ive never used that product, but you usually get what u pay for. I have used total boat and its held up fine so far. Waxed gel is a finishing coat...

I think Its the two A's with leg drop that make the H look tilted. Looks just fine to me tho. Ive never cleared over decals, fear of delamination or wrinkle I guess.
