    1972 Checkmate MX-15 Rebuild

I have neoprene for between the tank and brace, and between the tank and cradle. I bought a roll of 1" x 1/8" so i have a bunch of it for anywhere. Nothing is secured in yet till the cap is above.

    1972 Checkmate MX-15 Rebuild

Ok so I repositioned the tank back where it needs to be. The brace still works out between the fill tube and shutoff. Pump maintenance will only require unscrewing the brace, and sliding the tank a little forward. As for the hull cap, I spent some time putting square pegs in round holes...

    1972 Checkmate MX-15 Rebuild

I dont know how the weather is down by you Tod, but up here, they thread the needle between catching the late Bluefin tuna bite in oct/nov, and avoid the inboard engine block freeze come mid December/Jan. Me and my brother used to share an outboard whaler, and every season he's wait me out to...

    1990 IMP resto

Welcome to Iboats, from the looks of the pic u posted, it looks like you will be going alot deeper than just the deck, plus they rot from the keel up, so odds are u will be doing stringers, bulkheads and maybe transom too.

    1972 Checkmate MX-15 Rebuild

I give it a 50/50 chance the Chrysler works and ends up on the transom, otherwise ill shop for a merc 115-150. I plan to do the cockpit upholstery on the SR this winter too, and a dash redo, so ill be plenty busy this winter, but at least mostly inside work. I should be at the boat now...

    1972 Checkmate MX-15 Rebuild

While staring at it for a while, I think the easiest way to secure the tank will be to not use the straps, but counter sink a flat top screw on each end of the box channel, and secure the tank that way. One problem solved ;)

    1979 Glastron Carlson CV-23 restoration

You'll probably end up trying different methods and settling on what works best for you with the window of time you have based on what type of resin u use. Ive tried every way over the years, including saturating the cloth in a tray of resin and draping it over the stringers wet on wet. That...

    1972 Checkmate MX-15 Rebuild

I started placing everything and quickly remembered how tight the areas will be with regard to the fuel fill and tank placement. I put down some neoprene strips on the tank cradle and set it in, also installed the separator. I have Moeller tank straps, but have to figure out how to use them with...

    1972 Checkmate MX-15 Rebuild

Thanks Mike, Yeah I know, the short season here sucks. The dancer is still at the slip, I did clean everything out tho, so its ready to come out. The CC is coming out this week, its colder at the lake than at the shore right now.

    1979 Glastron Carlson CV-23 restoration

What you want to do is wet out the surface with resin, then press the cloth onto it, then dab or roll more resin over it. the resin will wick up thru the cloth. giving a complete bond with little dry spots.

    1972 Checkmate MX-15 Rebuild

Still plugging along here, put a coat of vinylester putty over the 17 oz cloth up front. I used the vinyl cuz it cures in no time and I wanted to move along. Sprayed a coat of bilge enamel in the front and rear. Painted the tank with the Por15 topcoat When this all dries, im gonna...

    Deck draining to bilge

If I was to add a drain in a deck, i would plumb it out the side with a thru hull fitting and hose, the less water you have going to the bilge, the better off u will be....

    1972 Checkmate MX-15 Rebuild

Yeah, that looks very close, I know Donzi used a similar gel some time ago. There's too many dark blue hull out there these days. so this shade is bright and fresh. Your rig looks sweet.

Thanks Bob, once I get thru the cosmetics, I can bury myself this winter in reassembling the Chrysler and see where I stand.

    1972 Checkmate MX-15 Rebuild

Im done going back and forth on what blue color for the hull. I ditched the Flag Blue idea and decided on Island Turquoise with the Snow White. Here's the combo on another boat. I planned on coating the tank and pad support brace with Por15, so I went with their safety blue. I went directly...

    1972 Checkmate MX-15 Rebuild

Here's an update on what ive been doing. I mixed up some epoxy resin with micro balloons to a gel coat consistency and slathered a thick layer over the entire bilge area to further seal it all up. Once it cures, I'll hit it quickly with a fairing compound and sand. I finished prepping the...

Rehab SportCraft 222 1983 deep V hull cuddy walkaround

I used it for patterning the eva foam decking, its basically plastic with a string grid pattern in it. It lays well and is transparent for easy marking with a felt pen.

    1972 Checkmate MX-15 Rebuild

I put a thin coat of Hullguard on the hull interior to seal up the raw glass and prep for some fairing. Not looking for perfection, just want it all smooth when wiping clean, and not have the rag catch on cloth edges and nibs. I have a can of Bilgekote enamel somewhere out back, that ill prolly...
