Advice on transom , stringers and floor rebuild

Ted's right, they arent that bad to work on, mostly a bunch of gears, rods, cams and pulleys as opposed to the thousand stitch style home machines with tight tolerances. it took me a bit to get mine dialed in, because i had to do some mixing of parts to get the server motor and monster wheel...

    Reattach cap to hull

Its a little tacky, yea, but thats a plus for this purpose, it retains its adhesive properties in wet areas for years because its moisture cured, as opposed to getting brittle and having to be dug out and replaced. The fasteners keep the parts together, the lexel keeps the water out without...

    Checking for rot

Take a drill and bit, marked with a piece of tape at around 1/2 inch and test drill lower areas of the stringers, look at the shavings, dry and blond = good, wet, back and ugly = bad. Fill back in with any epoxy filler. also check for delamination under the galley cabinets, they re prone to fail...

    1977 Baja on the cheap

Welcome to Iboats Resto forum ;) Kinda depends on the model ur looking at. If its the ski boat (runabout), it is a sistership to my checkmate, and there little wood under the small deck inthe center of the hull, so maybe only one center stringer, and a 2 foot wide deck, and wooden transom. Not...

    Reattach cap to hull

I used Lexel from lowes/hd on my sea ray 33 between the cap and hull, and under the rub rail. No more water stains on the hull liner where i cleaned previous stains after one season. I did stuff the bow some going thru the inlet, but it held up fine.

    Working in colder weather

Just use a heat gun before and after the laminate. It will go a long way in speeding ur cure, especially with poly. It will also help with flowing out the resin for a smoother finish.

    Ideas for refinishing boat bottom

yeah that probably fine for normal use, but for mine, smooth equals speed. The gunwales on my CC I sprayed with the 904 did require a bit of work to look right next to the factory gel.

1996 Century Boats 1800 Center Console Refit and Modernization

So the CC is officially out of the water and winterized. Since my 1 wheel dr van sucks at ramp retrieval, I opted to just drop the rig off in a slip at the marina, where they pulled it, set it on my trailer, washed the bottom, and winterized the engine. Its ready for me to pick it up and tow it...

    1972 Checkmate MX-15 Rebuild

I started knocking out some of the tasks needed to secure the cap. I drilled out the garboard hole thru the transom wood, sealed up the hole with thickened epoxy, and installed the pump base after removing the tank for a bit. I also drilled out the overboard hull fitting on the port side...

    Ideas for refinishing boat bottom

Gel is a fine choice, but its much more labor intensive. Not only do u have to do the normal precoat fairing, but theres significant post coat finish work needed for a smooth bottom, even with 50/50 duratech. The more duratech u use, the less final abrasion resistance youre left with. Even with...

    Ideas for refinishing boat bottom

I just finished the bottom of my Checkmate with Interlux VC performance epoxy, very happy with the results. Its rated for below the water line, but has no anti fouling properties, which u dont need for 3 days in.

    1972 Checkmate MX-15 Rebuild

I fitted the hull back in place today. Its not buttoned up yet cuz im still working out the fuel connections. The replacement rivets came in so im hoping to get everything sorted out and then seal it up. The shoebox joint lined up just as before. Im gonna relocate the fuel fill cap...

    Attaching Cap to hull

Any of those methods would work fine, except maybe just leaving them uncoated, or you could skip the wood and just rivet them together with some 3m sealant.

Advice on transom , stringers and floor rebuild

Your rear bench seat needs to be inherently low, to keep ur passengers onboard while underway, even on my 33', the rear bench is about a foot high, where the aft facing seating and helm seating is significantly taller.
