Joining Upper and Lower Housings, Can't Turn Driveshaft...

Yes, those links are invaluable. I watched it and was able to get the prop locked. The driveshaft is still locked in place...Is that normal if it is in forward? Reason I ask is because I know for certain that I was able to turn the prop before and watch the vertical driveshaft turn as well. I...

Joining Upper and Lower Housings, Can't Turn Driveshaft...

Yeah, maybe I'm missing something. Like I said, I know cars and motorcycles but boats are new to me. That vertical shaft simply is not turning clockwise or counterclockwise while I turn the prop shaft. Any direction is much appreciated. Thank you.

Joining Upper and Lower Housings, Can't Turn Driveshaft...

Gracias Eric. I'll give it a go. Thanks again. One more thing if I may...The throttle has to be in "forward" as well, yes? Seems to me that it should. It's currently in nuetral.

Joining Upper and Lower Housings, Can't Turn Driveshaft...

Pretty much says it all. Before I replaced the impeller, I'm pretty sure I was able to turn the driveshaft by turning the propshaft. Now, when attempting to join the upper and lower housings, the driveshaft seems as if it's locked. The propshaft spins clockwise and counterclockwise freely, but...

    MC-1 Lower Housing Part ID...

I did change out that little o-ring on the starboard side. Not sure I understand what you mean by "holding it in forward" though. One thing I just realized is that previously I was able to turn the shaft by turning the prop shaft...now for some reason I can't. It as if the shaft is locked somehow.

    Impeller Badly Damaged...

Doesn't seem like it, but I purchased the kit, so I'm replacing everything. Figured it doesn't cost much and it's good insurance if you know what I mean.

    Impeller Badly Damaged...

Hey all, Hope everyone is having a nice 3 day weekend. Me, I'm trying to get our new/used boat ready for at least a few trips out on the Sound before winter. So after doing my reading on this forum, I figured it was prudent to replace the impeller considering I don't know when it was last...

Hey folks, So I'm ready to upgrade my '78 Mercruiser 470 with a 4" heat exchanger. Question is...Will any 4" Mercruiser 470 heat exchanger work? Judging by the pics I see online, it appears as if they do but I'd like to be sure. TIA.

Draining The Oil On My 470?

Yeah, It's not a good pic, but there is no way that tube is coming out. It's fixed. I guess I'll have to "snake" the dipstick with a universal. Thanks folks. 'preciate the feedback.

Draining The Oil On My 470?

Hey all... So, I'm trying to get my recently purchased 1978 Fiberform Cuddy Cabin out on the water this weekend, but before I do I want to change the oil, right? So I bought a Quicksilver pump that screws over the dipstick tube as I see the thread on the tube. The problem I ran into was the...

Change Trans Fluid on a 1978 470 MerCruiser

This is awesome info. Thanks Eric, much appreciated. Yes, it is a 470...I just saw a lot of info that seemed to use the 2 interchangeably. I can't really make out the serial # on the engine's valve cover and I don't see any numbers on the outdrive. Thanks again for the info my friend. Here's a...

Change Trans Fluid on a 1978 470 MerCruiser

Howdy everybody, First post but it certainly won't be the last as I'm unfamiliar with motorboats. My wife and I just purchased a 21' 1978 Cuddy Cabin that has a 3.7 MerCruiser engine. Now I know my way around automobiles (all sorts of repairs and swaps), but I am unfamiliar with marine engines...
