So I became a proud boat owner today.

Very good news. I hate a leaky boat and for that reason I would still seal the bottom with a product like Gluvit. I've had a couple tin boats that sat at the dock all summer and never leaked a drop until they were under power. I'm on the fence about foam if the boat is going to be docked for...

    leaking riveted starcraft ('82 MR180)

Waters gettin deep round here. I'm in over my head. lol I had a livewell that was taking in water everytime the drain dipped below the water line. I used it for storage so I disconnected the drain line, got distracted and forgot to plug it. After a short venture onto the bay I noticed the water...

Bought a Used Boat, but what is it?

I've seen that logo or something close. I'm pretty sure it was in the office of the former and final Grew owner. Is the logo even original to the boat or even boat related? I seen an Arctic Cat chrome logo on a Chevy Cruze recently. Just sayin.

What thinketh the membership here..... Useful or just hype

That auto loader looks like it wants to eat fingers. I load my sc the same way but I leave it in gear while I lean over the bow to hook it. Currently a bunk trailer. 99.9% my ol' roller would stick but the .1 it didnt, I fell forward and got a good whack in the chin from the winch. Stays in...

    leaking riveted starcraft ('82 MR180)

I've messed with alot of small open tinners over the years, but with a floor, it makes it tough. I have not used gluvit, but I know many that have. We have a place on a semi private lake that is very shallow with rocks the size of mini vans everywhere. Some exposed, most are not. Everyone has...

So I became a proud boat owner today.

Sorry it's been awhile since I have worked on one. My good friend did alot of resto's for folks and resale. He had the right gear for the job. The hulls were cradled and planked. NOT on the trailer. Trailers were generally being cleaned up also. Never seen him bag a boat though.

For me, the build is the fun. Have you flooded the hull to see if it's worth the rehab? Seen more than one that would keep a couple bilge pumps going full time. Also seen them hold water in the hull but leak when they got dunked because of the difference between inner and outer preasure of the...

    Chrysler 105

Good to know if a fella was looking for parts. Thanks. First time I seen the cowl off a Force I just knew I was looking at a Chrysler. Still looked the same as it it did in the 60's. My 105 really did run good after a couple seasons of fighting it. It may have been more like 12gph before hand. lol

    Replacing Keel rollers

Cut the bunks back to get better access? I'd carefully nip off the ubolts with an angle grinder if you need to. My wife and I flipped my trailer over onto crates after removing the winch tower and guides. Aluminum trailer and smaller though.

    Chrysler 105

Get the best points and condensers available, reeds too. Also redo all the old wiring in the stator. I struggled with an ol' 105 years ago. It had a slight bog coming out of the hole at wide open throttle. Good motor once we figured it out. I think that pig had a burn rate of 9 gallons per hour...

    Would you?

lol, maybe. I see alot of the same fella's daily and most with small boats have adopted my method. I find the conditions themselves can dictate how you launch. Dock height, ramp angle, wind direction, waves ect. No matter the conditions, what we tow or tow with, be smart and stay safe out there...

My little side console tinner gets parked in a car port, and it's hooked up the night before. I go every morning and some evenings. From the time I start my van to the time my boat is in the water is 5 minutes. The ramp is not steep at all and requires getting in the water to unhook. It's...

I fish early "iceout". Even a bunk can catch you off guard with frozen bunks. I disconnect in the staging area and hook my bow line to my roof rack, back in, boat slips off. Unhook, tie up and park. I have had the boat start slide and had to dunk it quick. Lucky I didnt panic and hit the brakes...

I use the anti rattle clamps. Cheap and easy. No problems for about the last ten years

Might offer some entertainment at the ramp one day. I've spent a few hours assisting dunked vehicles over the years. lol. I personally like the folks who get a new boat with rollers vs bunks and unhook before headed down the ramp. oops

    Just curious

An influx of new boat owners during covid has me spittin nails. NO launch etiquette whatsoever. Tons of people pull off the ramp and park directly in front of the launch lanes. I have a mini van and 16' foot boat so it's not so bad for me, but folks with bigger rigs have no space to get lined...

    New to me Key Largo

I think I'm going to use stainless Togglers. I/4 inch aluminum plate that is 10" along the gunnel and wrap it over the edge. Taper it to 6" wide right to the floor and a couple more Togglers. It should transfer some of the stress of flexing to the floor. Normally I would mount everything on a...

Replacing transom on aluminum Jon boat

Pull the corner plates and cap. I just use plain plywood and put the resin to it. scrcew the top cap back on using a good sealant and bolt the corners back on. Good to go for another 20 years of abuse. By abuse I mean sitting in the elements uncared for. If it's always covered or shop kept, it...
