    Axle sleeve time

This old 1995 trailer is new to me. Bought it with the boat and I did a quick bearing change last summer just so we could go boating a few times before the season ended. Today I started to replace my surge brakes, backing plates setup, and brake lines. Once I cleaned off the grease, I found...

    Oil Change question

If there were an extra 2 qts or 2 liters of water in the oil it would no longer look like oil. If it looks like dirty oil, you’re fine. If it looks like milky goop, you have water in the oil.

    7.4L Overheating

Looking at the picture of your impeller, correct me if Im wrong but several of the blades are facing the wrong direction. I could see that as a restriction of flow if only 65% of the impeller is pumping.

    Bunk Bolts

Go as big as you can. At least as big as the other bolts on the trailer. Its a structural detail not just there to hold the bunk in place. And nyloc nuts help keep the bolts tight. I used standard hot dipped galv nuts to tighten down the bunk and then double nutted each with a nyloc nut...

Mercruiser 5.7 (1995) carb: ign coil question

Finally got around to dewinterize and do a tune up. The old coil looks to be original and if Im not mistaken, the tower looks scorched. Im going keep it as a spare. Im hoping this is more of a spark plug lead issue than coil problem, but I changed the plugs and wires as well. They all looked...

Has anyone self-changed the trim sensors on a 3.0 XL Alpha One drive?

Isnt it possible to cut the wires and solder new connections at the outdrive? I would think that a little liquid electrical tape covered with shrink tubing would seal it completely. Then its just a matter of swapping sensors.

Am I missing a step in gear lube swap?

I assume the alarm only sounds when the resevior is low, not the drive unit. It may take some time for the oil to migrate down to the drive befoe the alarm is activated. My guess is as long as the oil came out the upper hole you should be golden.

Lifespan of the engine circulating pump? Preventative maintenance

Lifespan of the engine circulating pump? Preventative maintenance

My boat is a 1995 Rinker with a 5.7 Mercruiser carb alpha 1 gen two. It has 550 hours on the clock. Is there a recommended interval where the water pump on the engine should be replaced as a maintenance item before the engine overheats? Looks like an easy job to do and the cost is reasonable...

Need options for making the ground flat enough to roll the trailer. Drive way pad.

I park my boat off the driveway in the backyard which is slightly inclined. This spring I bought two large pavers and placed them where the tires sit and made sure they sat level. These allow grass to grow thru them so less obvious in the backyard. I still block the tires, but its less likely...

    Bunk Bolts

Hot dipped galvanized bolts, washers and nuts. IIRC 7/16” bolts. Remove one and take it to the store

    1993 larson 4.3 coil

That makes sense. BTW The tower on the old coil looked burned from arcing. Probably a good time to replace the original coil anyway. at times the engine would struggle to fire up when hot. I associated it with fuel vapor lock, could have been a weak spark too.

    1993 larson 4.3 coil

Hi Chris, I pulled my old coil out and tested it. Same as pertronix. 1.4 ohm and 10,040 secondary. So I went ahead and installed it. I trashed the coil wire in the process. It was so corroded into the coil and I broke the wire. Ugh. why doesnt the multi meter read it correctly?

    1993 larson 4.3 coil

I went to replace my coil. Bought a pertronix 45011 from amazon. Supposedly has 0.6 ohm. I Tested it when it arrived, and spec’d out at 1.5 ohm. Its getting returned. Whatever you buy, test it before installing it.

    Greasing the gimbal bearing question

The drive shaft, gimbal, u-joints spin at all times while the engine is running. The Fwd/Rev shifter is below the main driveshaft. So the prop is not engaged. I bought the boat from a dealer on consignment. They did all the maintenance for the last 15 years. I believe them on the general...

    Greasing the gimbal bearing question

Hi Chris, i just bought this boat last August, used it 3 times Last year. I will remove the drive at the end of the season and deal with bellows and gimbal then. There wasnt any odd noises when running the boat last year. For now, just trying to catch up on the unknown maintenance. Not sure it...

    Greasing the gimbal bearing question

Is it better to grease the gimbal while the engine is off or running in neutral where the grease can flow throughout the bearing?
