Ok, this old 90 has some slight pitting on the driveshaft from salt water right where the seals ride below the water pump where it enters the housing. I don't really care to put a new driveshaft in her as old and rough looking as she is, plus I'm not sure I could even get the bearing carrier for the prop shaft out. Has anyone ever put a speedy sleeve on one of these? If so, what part number did you use? She runs good, just getting a little water in the lube.

Well----I machine my own sleeves for Mercury carbon steel driveshafts.----In fresh water I have never seen a pitting issue on driveshaft on Johnson / Evinrude motors.

Well I happen to have one. Had rust in there where the seals ride. The motor was used in salt water for just a few years of it's life. Must be 304 stainless or lesser grade. I've used those speedy sleeves on boat trailer spindles and a few other things and they work great. I'll have to take it apart though to get the diameter sometime and see what's available. Thanks.

Does anyone happen to know the diameter of the driveshaft in thousands of an inch where the seals run just below the water pump housing? Getting back to this now. Wanting to see if there is a speedi sleeve that'll fit it. I can take it apart to mic it, but if anyone knows off hand, would be extremely helpful. I put a new water pump in a couple of months back and completely forgot to measure it. The seals are slowly wearing from the pits and so now is time to do something.

Following up on this for future reference. This worked perfectly. When I put it on there, I put the tapered collar side down and it was almost the exact same taper as the drive shaft and fit like a glove. This collar is used to install the sleeve and can be left on or removed if needed. Actually added more length to the sleeve which is needed which is why I left it. Once the bearing carrier was bolted back on, the sleeve was just barely protruding through the seal. Chicago Rawhide speedi sleeve part# 99087.
