What are good internet places to get vintage Evinrude parts?

We all know about eBay and Craigslist. Where are good places to look for the parts that we need? New and used parts!
I'm new to restoring Evinrude engines and want to learn. I understand that you can quickly dump a lot of money into a vintage outboard but the cost of a new 40 HP is $7,000 installed locally! I can do a lot of work on a vintage outboard for $1,000!

Thanks!

Well your statement is very debatable. I find Craigslist to be the best all around but eBay has more inventory. If you find some secrete place that has vintage outboards parts for cheap please let me know. Otherwise, there are plenty of places that sell new parts.
By the way, what do you consider vintage?

Gee, it kinds depends on what you are looking for. Normal maintenance parts will be easily available. Other parts will be a lot harder to find. Hopefully you only need ign, carb and cooling system parts.

The best thing is to get a part number and official description and search the web.

NLA parts are not going to be found from most suppliers like Sierra et al, you need sources that dismantle old boats/engines and sell off what is still usable.

I see vendors on eBay all the time that have old new stock from estate sales etc. I just buy from them. If old stock items aren't available, then I buy used.

The original question was for vintage parts. I'm guessing he is talking about marts that you can't buy from Evinrude, iboats, marine engine, Crowley and all the like web sites.

What's funny is everybody's idea of what vintage is. When I talk to some of the young folk the 1980s stuff is some serious vintage!

Well even many of those parts regardless of what your or I or the kids call vintage are NLA and only available on the used market, unless you find someone who bought out some old marine shop or something and had piles of NOS parts.

I think Sea Way marine bought up a bunch of OMC stuff after the bankruptcy. NLA marine appears to get stuff from boats parted out in fresh water regions.
