Cyclone S jet boat need help

Rule number 1 of the small sportjets is NEVER, ever run them on a hose or dry. Exhaust gases build up, ignite, and pop the ride plate gasket out. This in turn causes a big leak that can kill performance, but worse case can suck water back into the engine. Sounds very much like what is...

better to be at the low end or top end of RPM?

So my testing shows the vengeance is a really bad prop, what is the group's recommendation for a good stainless steel? I'm running the alum 21" from my first test at the moment, and the engine just seems much happier with that vs the SS veng.

    What is this plastic piece?

I've seen drives run a long time without the owner realizing they weren't even there.

better to be at the low end or top end of RPM?

Very good guess! Yep, 3 blade vengeance. In very good condition, not dinged up/bent. Didn't realize they were that much of a dog.

better to be at the low end or top end of RPM?

2002 Hurricane Fundeck I/O deckboat. She's a bit chunky, lots of fiberglass... 19ft, probably about 4000# or so with 2 people and 40 gallons of fuel on board. 2 barrel 4.3l, 1.81 alpha. Very little water sports, most of it is just cruising, usually under plane or just on plane. I also have...

    Inboard 2011 4.3 Merc

Pulling the drive is literally 5 minutes if you have done it. Maybe 15 minutes if you follow a video. (getting it back on, on the other hand... that can either be 5 minutes, or 30 as you fight a greasy pig)

how does one flush out rust from block?

You know the exhaust from your engine is highly toxic? That is injected directly into the water you are boating in... Its all about the dose. Almost everything is toxic at a certain level, even a fair amount of everyday food we eat. (tomatos and potatoes in particular) Dilute the acid...

    1993 4.3 engine oil type

Mercruiser doesn't have a clue. This is directly off the label on their own synth blend. "Synthetic blend four stroke oil is for use in all four stroke outboard, stern drive and inboard marine engines. "

    Don’t do this please.

Why? A properly maintained vehicle is going to have the same tow rating... You won't find a single manufacturer anywhere that tells you have to de-rate with age. None. And 12 years is barely broken in! Now if someone hasn't done a bit of maintenance in 12 years, that is a different story.

    Explosion and Fire Danger

Just bought an electric vehicle, and yeah the insurance is high, but not that bad. The cost isn't due to fire, EV's catch fire at about the same rate as ICE vehicles. (they burn up way more than you would think!) The insurance rate is due to the complexity of repair, mainly due to accidents...

    Oil Drain plug

The good news is that putting a new oil pan on is easy when the engine is out. Bad news is that you are going to be replacing more than just the oil pan. Bearings (and possibly more) on that engine is shot. Even if it runs and sounds fine now, the damage is done. Way too much water not to...

What type transom straps do you prefer

haven't used transom straps in 5 years!, but... if I ever needed to, I've got a set of stainless steel kwik locks that work well.

Hard starting 4.3LX, normal or not?

I must be lucky... The two 4.3's I've owned start like they have fuel injection if they have been sitting anywhere from a day to a couple weeks. I don't pump, I don't do anything. Turn the key and it goes. (a '96 and a '03) Hot starts on the other hand... My current 4.3 hates that! If it...

2006 Mercruiser 4.3 no power to Fuel Pump

Also, oil pressure switch failures can be intermittent. You may have jostled something enough when you took it out that it works, for a while.

Converting to carburetor from mpi 350 mag

That is a surge protector, not a lightning arrester. If the line close enough to your house takes a hit, it is going to blow straight through that arrester like it isn't even there. Lightning rods are what you need, and unplug any expensive electronics during major storms.

First time winterizing 4.3 mercruiser, alpha one.

Was thinking the same! At least for us freshwater boaters, it takes me 3 minutes to winterize. Pull the plugs, shove a screwdriver up the bottom 2, done... Because of some screwy weather this year, I've winterized 3 times this fall alone!

    Unrepairable Boat ?

I was able to select that engine, add to cart, and make it up to checkout without once having core mentioned. I'm 99% sure they will sell it, you just won't get a couple hundred bucks back for sending one back to them.

    stackable boat storage

Don't cheap out and try to improvise for this! Get yourself an actual lift. As far as I know there is only 1 2-post lift on the market rated for storage, so most likely you will want a 4 post lift.

    PSA on Winterization Antifreeze

air don't freeze! taken last year, 5 degree air temp, was about -20 that night. If you notice the bottom of the jug, it was significantly pushed out. The -75 AF was virtually rock hard.

boat will startup and then shut down

Any update? Went through exactly this same thing last spring. 99.9% that is an oil pressure switch.
