The threads are stripped or the hex head?

If the hex is stripped use a vice grip and heat. If threads are done you may need a new pan, or at least a new insert for the plug.

Water in the crankcase for years sounds detrimental to the crank/rod bearings and who knows what else. You may be looking at a rebuild

About a gallon
Ayuh,.... In that case, the bearings may, or may not have been underwater all these years,.....
The oil pump, most probably was underwater all these years, 'n is probably rust pitted pretty good, 'n should be inspected, or changed,....

With a gallon of water, that motor should be coming out

The good news is that putting a new oil pan on is easy when the engine is out. Bad news is that you are going to be replacing more than just the oil pan. Bearings (and possibly more) on that engine is shot. Even if it runs and sounds fine now, the damage is done. Way too much water not to have rust in critical spots.
