Has anyone made a homemade lift? I have a 1959 chris craft that I want to stack my raysoncraft on top of for the winter. I have had all kinds of crazy ideas starting with 4 posts.. One with electric winches and then a cross bar once its up, another with toothed track and four motors, and a few others. The little Rasyoncraft only weighs about 2000 trailer and all (motor comes out for the winter) The windshield on the Chris Craft is about 6 ' off of the ground, so only really need to go up about 6 1/2 feet. I was planning on attaching three posts to walls, so only one would be wild, and then a steel x-brace to keep the posts from wandering. Its just the lifting apparatus giving me some grief. I also want is so nobody ever goes underneath it until a hard cross bar is attached. Thinking like a bracket attached to the post with a sleeve for a pin, sort of like a lumber rack.

Thanks, Don

you can buy a 2-post garage lift for about $2k that has the safeties built in. you do need 8" of concrete slab to anchor it with. a 4-post lift is a bit more.

You could use a chain hoist at each corner with straps. It's slow but works good. I painted the bottom of some big boats using it.

Don't cheap out and try to improvise for this! Get yourself an actual lift. As far as I know there is only 1 2-post lift on the market rated for storage, so most likely you will want a 4 post lift.

how thick is your slab?

if 8" thick, you can anchor a 2-post lift
if only 4" thick, you will need a 4-post lift
