    Mercruiser greatly overpropped, need advice

Could very well be a mixture. I could smell gas when I opened a few holes, and the engine have ran with a stuck open thermostat before I got it. Plugs were dark from being rich. I couldn't get it past 125 running under a load untill I changed the thermostat. A few of the plugs had flacks of...

    Mercruiser greatly overpropped, need advice

Compression test is in. Lowest came in at 145(cylinder 1) highest was 160(cylinder 7) most of them were around 155. I also double checked my compression tester with my portable air pump, atleast at 90 psi, they are the same. Engines is healthy. What's next?

    Mercruiser greatly overpropped, need advice

I plan on doing that tonight and will report results. Am I correct in that all I need to do is disconnect the coil lead, or do I need to disconnect the wires too? I was getting conflicting results when I search it.

    Mercruiser greatly overpropped, need advice

To clarify, I have not inspected the gears myself, but the previous owner had all the paperwork of the work done to the boat since new. The original owner had ran the gearcase with water in it. The paper work says lower unit unit was completely replaced whith the upper unit being replaced with...

    Mercruiser greatly overpropped, need advice

Hello, I have a new to me boat. What I've slowly been finding out is that the previous owner didn't have a clue about maintenance or engines in general. After fixing the wrong timing, hole in fuel pump diaphram, shift cable, Bellows, you name it, I finally think I have it running good. Except...

Need advice for when to pull the trigger on new purchase

I never considered aluminum an option on the great lakes. Except close to shore but still If it's because of rot or water intrusion, that's not really a concern, I'll use my own best judgment and if a spell of doubt will have it surveyed. Looking for a reasonable price range for a good boat.

Need advice for when to pull the trigger on new purchase

Hello, been looking for a bigger boat, something I can take comfortable on the great lakes. Started looking about two months ago, which at that time everything was way higher, even junk. Stopped looking and started about a week ago. Better prices but just not sure when to pull. I'm looking for...

    Porposing. Can not solve!

Would the bennett m80s fit this boat. I just feel the kicker moter barker would get in the way. Unless they can be attached in a way I do not know. Thanks

    Porposing. Can not solve!

I recently rebuilt a boat. Transom and floor rotted. Everything. After being rebuilt, sitting in the water, the transom sits alittle higher(persumablely because of less weight from water logged wood and I moved aproximently 120 lbs of batteries under the center console instead of by the transom...

Splatter paint effect using hopper gun

I'm going to be trying to respray the gellcoat on my 1973 trihull. It has a splatter paint look that is really nice, easy to wash, grippy and durable. I'd really like to get it close. I've been worried about using smaller sprayers to get the look because for it to go through the gun, it needs...

    Replacing stringers.

OP, and anyone else that reads this thread. I'm not trying to start fights but take it from people that have acually restored or are in the process of doing so. This project is going to be 2.5 to 3k. I want to be realistic with you. Theres alot of small stuff that goes into that adds up fast...

    Replacing stringers.

Personally, I would start with replacing the transom. It would really depend on you boat type. And how you want to accomplish the build, are you leaving all of the outside skin complete? Maybe some picture could help to get a solid plan of execution put together

    Replacing stringers.

If you are around the ohio/lake Erie area, a place called homestead hardwood sells good marine grade plywood. For 1/2in 5 ply AB doug fir, it cost me about $70 a sheet. But let me tell you, everything they sell at lowes, menards, home depot abosutly sucks. Lots of voids, warped, and the wood...

    73 lucraft fiberglass deck painting

The web idea, was just because of the product is called webbing solution. And i believe it is commonly mixed with a gel coat and sprayed on at a lower psi, but has more of a stringy look. But what I read you can do, is you put the web in solution at a lower concentration, and it blobs/splatters...
