    Rinker differences

Misterbreeze, I also need new Canvas for my 2004 Rinker. What supplier did you find. That only place I can find mine listed says they aren't taking orders.

    When To Dewinterize

Depends where you are. I'm in western Virginia. I've been winterizing my I/Os for about 20 years now. Early on I'd get all excited for a warm spring day in March and fire the boat up on muffs in the yard. Evey time about 2 weeks later the lows would be down in the teens and I'd be draining the...

    Buying a boat

If your handy and mechanical and can repair and maintain a boat yourself it might be a good one. If you will need to pay someone to do everything including basic maintenance and winterizing then it's not a good choice. As noted, those old drive components are hard to find mechanics and parts...

How to get boat launched daily when Travel Trailer camping?

I don't understand why the boat can't be simply carried from the campsite to the lake in the back of the truck. Assemble at campsite, lift it into the truck, haul to launch ramp, lift it out of truck to the water. What's the problem?

Purchasing 2nd Boat: Jet or Stern Drive?

My sister didn't like skiing behind a jet boat. She said the water was "soft" and didn't support the skis as well. I would guess this is due to arreation by the jet. I don't like noise so I wouldn't pick a jet. I'm firmly an I/O guy. I don't want that OB sticking up in the middle of our lounge/...

Kind of a weird question on a/c for boat

What size wire and how long a run to your dock? You may not even be able to pull 15 amps with acceptable voltage drop. Do you have or need an inverter? A Magnum hybrid inverter can use battery power to support the AC and ref. when they cycle on and then recharge when they cycle off.

Inverter with shore power - Question ???

As I think you've discovered your inverter is much more than that, it's also a transfer switch and battery charger. If the system was installed and programed right the operation of the 120v system should be fairly seamless and automatic. The inverter will invert when no shore power, charge when...

Can you search DMV records for a particular car

Sounds like "Gone in 60 Seconds". Do you know anyone in the auto insurance industry?

    I/O Characteristics

You can trim the drive up a ways to gain a bit better draft. If you go beyond a certain point it puts the U-joint in a range that it doesn't like. You can run it like that VERY Slowly and briefly but I wouldn't do it all the time.

    Thundercraft Inverter

Many inverters do include not only an inverter but also a battery charger and a transfer switch all in the same case. These are more properly called inverter/chargers but most people just refer to them as inverters even though they do all 3 functions. OP, I don't know about your particular unit...

    Fun with a tube

Why transport it inflated? I have a 12v inflator that plugs into the cigarette lighter in the boat. It blows up my 2 person 60" tube in about 2 minutes. I can deflate it in about 1 minute. If I had to transport one inflated it would be in the back of my Suburban. What are you towing with and...

    Can't see my boat

I use the side mirrors to see my boat sides, tires, fenders, etc. If your mirrors don't allow for that you need to upgrade them or get some slip on extensions. However, if Scott's math is correct then you probably need a new tow vehicle. Have you run your rig, fully loaded, across a scale? I...

Found a snake skin in the boat. Now what?

The problem there is she's the one who found it. I'm already getting the "I'm not sure I want to go on the boat again" talk. Thanks for the suggestions of bleach and hot water. If nothing else the nether regions of the boat could stand a good cleaning I guess. The last thing I need is a snake...

Found a snake skin in the boat. Now what?

My 23' open bow is stored on the trailer at my house. We live on wooded property in the mountains of VA. Today my wife was getting life jackets out of a compartment to hang them up to dry. In the bottom of the compartment was a snake skin. That compartment was emptied and cleaned back in June so...

    Speedometer Connected to GPS Device?

Have you checked your "regular" speedometer against a GPS? I have and it's only off by 1 or 2 MPH. That's far closer than it needs to be for my use.

New Boat Owner as of July 2021

A lot of people make the mistake of thinking a boat is like a car on the water; they sort of take care of them like a car. Basic maintenance and fix everything else when it breaks. This really isn't a good idea because being stuck in the middle of a lake is way worse then being stuck by the side...

    Running new speaker wire

You can run them anywhere you can find a place to run them. I can almost guarantee you there is no way to run them under the floor. Like Scott said, either go around the front or around the back.

    Electric Boats

Lectro 88, If I understand correctly your solar knowledge is from 30 years ago? And you think it MAY have progressed since then? I'm an electrical contractor and I install solar, mostly off grid, for a living. I've been in business 19 years and I've been doing solar for about 15 years. Solar...

    Ease of towing larger boat

I tow a 23' boat to and from the lake every time I got. The closes lake is 50 miles each way. The lake we mostly go to is 100 miles each way. Sometimes we go to a lake that is about 150 miles each way. So yes, I see a lot of road time with the boat in tow. I use a 2500 Suburban and it handles it...
