1978 JOHNSON 115 THERMOSTAT HOUSING HELP

Well, I was able to get the center bolt out ,but not the two side bolts. Rather then pull the powerhead, I chose the "butcher method and drilled two holes in the lower cover, just big enough to fit a 1/4" drive socket. I figure I'll search online for some kind of rubber plug to put in the two...

It does not have the bubble back exhaust. I removed the cowling and, depending on the length of the bolts, may be able to remove them

1978 JOHNSON 115 THERMOSTAT HOUSING HELP

Hello, I have a 78 115 v4 and I want to check/change the thermostats. I have the factory service manual, but it's not clear (or I'm just not seeing it) if its's absolutely necessary to pull the power head. Can the thermostat housing be removed w/o hoisting up the powerhead?? Thanks!

    ARE 1978 JOHNSON 115 & 1982 EVINRUDE 115 PARTS INTERCHANGEABLE???

I've been looking for a motor to replace my 78 Johnson 115. Would like a four stroke to access more lakes (CA regulations), but I cant justify spending that kind of money on my 1982 Ranger 330V. I've come across a 1982 evinrude 115 for $1500 (Craigslist) . I inquired about the numbers and the...

    Bass Boat Seat Pedestal Question

Hello, I have a 1982 Ranger 330V bass boat that I need to get front and rear seats and pedestals for. As I am finding out, there are several different types and I have no idea which type is the correct one for my boat. All I really know is that the diameter of the holes, in which the pedestals...

Tilt/Trim Goes Up, But Not Down

Hello, semi-new to the forum (only posted a few times) I have a 1978 Johnson 115hp V4. My tilt/trim setup is the older solenoid type. My problem is that when I push the trim/tilt switch down all I get is a slight bump of the T/T motor but now downward movement. When I push the T/T switch UP I...

NEW REMOTE CONTROL TO OLD MOTOR

The only used remote controls that I could find (with working trim switch) cost as just as much, or more then the brand new OMC box that I bought. Yes, it is costing more in the long run, but I can't turn back now....Le$$on learned, lol! Any thoughts as to why I have low voltage at the "Down"...

NEW REMOTE CONTROL TO OLD MOTOR

Hello, I have a 1978 Johnson 115hp Crossflow on an old Ranger Bass Boat. The remote that was on when I was given the boat turned out to have broken plastic piece rattling around inside the box. There was also no trim/tilt switch on the throttle/gear selector lever. There was, instead, a toggle...

Johnson 115hp Need to lift motor off transom to install steering cable...Questions!

Hello, Motor is mounted on 1980's Ranger Bass boat. I'm replacing the steering system on it because the old cable is bent (the opening for cables & wires does not line up with tilt) Since the old cable was already bent/kinked I pulled it out of tilt tube( with the help of a brass drift and...

Hello. I am replacing the remote control unit for my Johnson 115ETL78C. I ordered a new one (BRP) and the wire harness adapter. I not sure weather I should order the pre1979 or post 1979 cables. Thanks in advance for any information you might share

Johnson 115ETL78C Throttle Linkage Question w/pics!

I have tried adjusting the black wheels on the cables at the motor, but it didn't even move the lever at all. It felt more like the cable was pushing towards the remote control, but that lever didn't move. I will try again after work. Thank You for taking the time to read/respond to my posts...

Compression test numbers are: 110/110/115/110. The engine was not to operating temp because when i start the motor on muffs it revs very high just dies when I move the warmup lever to the RUN position. When I start the motor on the water same thing except I push the shift/throttle lever...

Johnson 115ETL78C Throttle Linkage Question w/pics!

    Late 70's Lower unit identification

This is motor is new-to-me and so is the old bass boat that it 's mounted on. I've taken it to the lake twice. It runs, but there are definitely some issues. The biggest being that it "clunks" hard when going into forward gear. The second is that it won't idle properly. I don't even like to...

    Late 70's Lower unit identification

Here is my motor (115ETL78C) and the lower unit I got off of Craigslist. The guy said it was off of a 1978 150hp Johnson ( or so he was told by whoever sold it to him) He told me he bought it to use on his motor (175849C), an evinrude , but it "wouldn't work... The two lower units look the same...
