    Johnson V4 Crossflow Throttle return

Hello. On my 1978 Johnson the throttle doesn't seem to be returning properly. At first, I thought it was the timer base. Is the throttle supposed to return to the idle stop screw and the timer base back to its starting point? No difference if the cable is off or on hopefully I'm explaining this...

What kind of lube for timer base??

Hello, I am replacing ignition components on my 1978 Johnson 115 V4 Crossflow. My old timer always seem to have problems returning back to idle. Some suggested that may have been because the grease dried up. The old one was brass, but the new one is all plastic. What type of lubricant should I use??

    ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR TOOLS

Hello, I'm replacing some parts on my '78 Johnson 115 and need to remove a couple of wires from their Amphenol connectors. Then I will need to insert each of the two wires into the two new connectors. Does anyone know of a way to do accomplish this WITHOUT buying the tool kit that is kind of...

    Carburetor Rebuild Question....V4 Crossflow

Fuel seeping out of gaskets. I have had the kits for a while but I have a phobia about messing around with carburetors...But, you're right. These carbs are very simple and easy to deal with. I figured now would be a good time to do them while I'm waiting for parts. I decided to replace All of...

    Carburetor Rebuild Question....V4 Crossflow

Hello, I'm all set to rebuild the carburetors on my '78 Johnson 115hp. The factory service manual says to "put a bead of OMC adhesive 'M' around the outer edge of new core plug". I was taught to NEVER use adhesives or sealants in carburetors! Does anyone have any experience with " adhesive M"...

    CROSSFLOW PERFORMANCE ?'s

Bought a rectifier ( Sierra 18-5708) off Amazon), installed it, and took the boat out last Friday. Started up ok, ran good, but then I noticed my tach was out and voltmeter gauge was reading 12.9 (battery voltage) and dropping because of accessory load. Bad Rectifier out of the box?? As for...

Thanks!I will check the power packs, provided there's a procedure in the manual.

    CROSSFLOW PERFORMANCE ?'s

No it does not. Just grasping at straws here... Could making sharp turns (tbh, I did a couple of rather tight "figure 8's) cause the fuel pump to suck air or perhaps do something to the float(s) in carb(s). Again, just guessing. Most bass boats have fuel tanks under the seats ,but mine is an...

    CROSSFLOW PERFORMANCE ?'s

So, I'm wondering if I should have yet another battery for my fish finders. If I were to do that, is there any way to have that battery charged by the motor, as well as the cranking battery? Or will a freshly charged batter, used only for my fish finders, last all day on one charge?

    CROSSFLOW PERFORMANCE ?'s

Today I did all of charging system resistance tests of the stator and rectifier as directed in the factory service manual. All passed! Tested the battery and it is in an overcharged condition(13.4V). It did pass load test. To answer questions: Built in tank w/ water separator(newer...

Does anyone know what the maximum output from the rectifier is? Mine showed 16.9V . That seems high to me

    CROSSFLOW PERFORMANCE ?'s

Hello, I have a 1978 Johnson 115hp V4 on my '82 Ranger bass boat. This morning after fishing I decided to fool around a bit. I've spent the last two years restoring this boat & motor and I wanted to see how it handled, top speed, etc. I always run it WOT from one fishing spot to the next, but...

    78 TO 82 115HP CARBURETOR SWAP??

Yes. the tubes go to intake and carbs. I've decided to just pull the carbs off the 78 and rebuild. The 82 isn't necessarily a "parts motor"...more like a "spare motor" that I plan on using if/when the rings break on the 78. I should probably not start picking parts off of it and keep it complete

    78 TO 82 115HP CARBURETOR SWAP??

I have the electric primer valve. Can I convert my choke solenoid type to the primer type? (Actually, I have been wanting to do away with the choke solenoid setup. The plastic clip on the end of the plunger was brittle and snapped in half. I repaired it with epoxy, but I think that made it too...

    78 Johnson 115 Carb Kit??

Hello, I'm looking for a carb kit for my 115ETL78C. The info on my usual parts websites is conflicting. crowleymarine doesn't recognize 115ETL78C, but gives me 115ETZ78C, for which the carb kit is p/n 0439076. They are a bit pricey so I went to wholesalemarine to look for a Sierra kit. They give...
