Hello, I'm all set to rebuild the carburetors on my '78 Johnson 115hp. The factory service manual says to "put a bead of OMC adhesive 'M' around the outer edge of new core plug".
I was taught to NEVER use adhesives or sealants in carburetors! Does anyone have any experience with " adhesive M"? Is there an equivalent product available? Would it hurt to NOT use sealant around core plug??

Not needed , but makes sure there is no air leak.-----Those carburetors are very simple and reliable.----What issues do you have with your motor ?

Fuel seeping out of gaskets. I have had the kits for a while but I have a phobia about messing around with carburetors...But, you're right. These carbs are very simple and easy to deal with.
I figured now would be a good time to do them while I'm waiting for parts. I decided to replace All of my ignition components (timer base, stator, power packs, coils, and regulators.) I did a dumb thing... I accidentally hit the terminal block wit a screwdriver and arced something. Not sure what blew, but my motor runs horribly! Hard to start, lost spark on one coil, sputtering, etc. I've done all the resistance tests outlined in the manual. The stator tested bad so I took one off off of my 82 Evinrude 115, but that didn't help.
So, I've decided to replace it all! with NEW parts and be done with it, lol! An expensive mistake, for sure!!
