Honda bf50 spark and carb issues

Newbie - First. I don't think you're supposed to run the motor with that Honda rinse adapter in place. It's used to rinse the motor only (completely worthless in my opinion). WAY further ahead running on muffs - assuming you have adequate water pressure. Second, if you look at the "foot"...

    18' pontoon prop?

I can pretty much guarantee that prop will raise rpm's without going any faster for sure. Similar boat with similar speeds here

    18' pontoon prop?

Clearly a 'toon is at best a compromise for pulling duty. Still though, the ski boat/runabout numbers are decreasing just as pontoon numbers are climbing. That in mind, we're reminded all boats are a compromise to some extent.

    18' pontoon prop?

My bet is you have too big a prop - and a piece of that may be lack of tuning for altitude of 4600 ft. With the engine tuned for altitude (if necessary, I don't know, you'll need to look into it in owners manual) you should be turning up about 5500 rpm or so for best performance.

That would certainly do it! Hope you have a great summer.

    Tube pulling?

My target rpm would be about 5500. If you turn a 4 stoke up to max rpm (6K) they sound pretty busy, and they're no faster , don't have any more power than they do at 5500. That's been my experience anyway. 4 blade alum Solace props just a few bucks more than a 3 blade. Upside would be more...

    Fuel in ehxaust

In 2006 or so, Honda changed from a manual choke (with choke butterflies) to an electric automatic choke system that's a plumbers nightmare. Which system does your motor have? Does it release this gas only when cold, or is it doing it after it's been warmed up/run for a while?

    Cracked block

There are thousands of people that go many years without rusting out a set of bearings or even seeing a drop of water. I would suggest you find out exactly why yours is leaking.

G3 Pontoons interested in your opinion.

A center console is certainly going to limit your choices. I'm not sure I've ever seen one that wasn't a custom build. Maybe I'm just out of touch regarding the new stuff available. That's certainly possible!

    Tube pulling?

Second the vote for direct to log attach. That cleat may be (is probably) fastened to nothing but 3/4" plywood deck material.

1993 MerCruiser 4.3L V6 RAN OUT OF OIL

What might push those seals out would be pressure buildup in the crankcase. There are vents and the PC valve to eliminate that issue, but if they were plugged, or somebody (incorrectly) decided they didn't need them, that could easily blow out those seals.

    Pontoon Motor Selection questions

High thrust refers to the gear ratio in the lower unit. They set it up to run more diameter to get more thrust. Add a 4 blade prop to the picture and you get some great thrust that works out nice for windy day docking for instance.... If you see/hear the term "Bigfoot" it's the same deal....

Honda BFP60A will not exceed 3800 rpm

So SOMEBODY had that apart.... Kinda weird they wouldn't have replaced that gunked up filter. Maybe that points to whoever it was that had it apart was a rookie. Like maybe the previous owner.... Don't forget, the grommet is placed on the pump side first during the install! Fingers crossed...

    older crest pontoon steering cable

Unless I'm mistaken, another factor might be how much room is available. I'm thinking the rack setup needs/uses quite a bit more room? Pretty tight in some of these consoles....

Judging by the ones I've seen/worked on over the years, my bet is radial - but I'd hate to have you buy the worng one based on that info.....

    Honda Hour meter not working

The hour meter is like a light bulb. It needs a hot and a ground to function. Many will use the hot and ground from the tach to do that.

Honda BFP60A will not exceed 3800 rpm

Here, on a new to me boat, that would leave me wondering about the accuracy of the tach? 17 mph (via GPS) not very far off of what most boats like that will do when right. Your tach, if it's not set correctly, COULD be misleading you, sending you on a wild goose chase? There's a dial on the...

Honda BFP60A will not exceed 3800 rpm

Based on practical experience, that prop is about right, and should run the boat up close to 20mph - assuming it's lightly loaded. This 3800 rpm issue is why I like the carbed motors much better. They don't play games like this. Fuel injected start and run better of course - until they...
