Honda 150 performance issue on Hewescraft Searunner 190

I wasn't going to say anything, but somebody advising a user regarding the potential for "hub slip" when he's claiming a max rpm of 4500, needs to be called out for the sheer lack of thought and/or experience behind a comment like that. It's not that I'm technically superior. I know better than...

Honda 150 performance issue on Hewescraft Searunner 190

Fazt- You likely already know this, but if not, Searider is an expert. Arguing with him is like talking to a wall. Logic is useless. He's OK working on 40hp and under 2 strokes, but is flailing on anything else.

    Ease of towing larger boat

I was going to say the ramps that I planned on using would play a big part, as would the roads leading to them. Width would also be a concern.

    Unusual inboard drive-What is it?

My bet is that drive replaced a single engine inboard setup and was one of the bigger reasons that project was never completed.

    Bimini Top Replacement?

A search of "8x8 bimini top pontoon" done on Amazon yielded quite a few complete canopies for less than 200. a few minutes ago.

    Trailer balance questimate?

Set the boat on the trailer where it needs to be to get good support under the transom. THEN put the axle where it needs to be for proper tongue weight with boat loaded as it will be most often when towed.

Bow of boat hits winch when loading onto trailer

Agree on most opinions, but 3 primarily. The trailer is likely being backed in too far, and the winch stand angle is incorrect. Last is that chain. The end not fastened to the boat should go to the trailer frame, not the winch stand.

BF50 Oil leak before and after valve cover gasket change

No sealer required in my experience. You swapped the existing gasket for a new one? Were those hard to reach corners spotless after having been cleaned with a solvent? Any chance some previously used sealant is still lurking in there somewhere? Has this motor been overheated to the point the...

    Bimini Top Replacement?

To get just the frame, you may end up paying more than for an entire replacement canvas w/frame. Worst case, you end up with an extra fabric. If the boat is going to be around for a while, you'll probably need a replacement at some point, so not a waste of money.

    Unusual inboard drive-What is it?

I don't remember many of the particulars, but those drives were used on big HP (750-1000+) offshore boats. The idea was to be able to maintain the ability to trim while keeeping a lot of the prop out of the water for reduced drag. Thinking it might have been a Don Aronow design?

    shallow launch

In today's world, I believe the market for I/O's is dropping quickly/significantly - caused by the huge popularity of the 4 stroke outboards. They can do anything the I/O's can do, and in many cases, do it better while being much more easily serviced. I like the idea of an outboard (2 stroke...

    Rent a cabin cruiser?

Maybe you've already considered this, but my first thought is something like that is going to require a pretty serious tow vehicle. Then, the idea of a single engine, unless you are thinking inboard/outboard, brings thoughts of the experience required when docking or loading the boat on a...

    Bimini Top Replacement?

10x8 a great plan if you have the room for the front tie down strap - so it doesn't cross a frequently used doorway for instance... On our inland lake, seeing more and more pontoon boats with 2 tops, that zip together. Never used to see them, now it's pretty common.

Transferring fuel from truck to garage to dock to boats (PITB)

A very long time lake front resident (since '78), and one of my favorite sayings is "a lazy man can find an easy way to do anything". Just wanted to mention I'm still toting fuel using 5-6 gal. cans......

    No rear cleat?

We had a boat like that a really long time ago. We went to the hardware and bought a 1/2" galvanized eye bolt about 6" long, along with a couple of big flat washers. We installed that in the "M" bracket that goes between the pontoon logs and the floor cross members. There was a hole already...
