    Removing trim hose block

When I thought I was going to have to replace this on my SX-M due to potentially bad threads on the manifold block I found posts that say its possible. Here are the key elements I read about and those that have done it can provide additional info: The block does come out towards the rear after...

    Strange engine sound need help

We have a 2005 GXi-E and I too had the belt dust issue but not the wobble. Solved it after I replaced every pulley. For the the circ pump ‘bell’ I had a machine shop set up on it’s mounting face and turn it true to that - runout is now about .003” and it’s nice and square. No issues, no dust...

    Strange engine sound need help

Anders, i am assuming you are not teasing me so i will answer and provide a follow up comment. The straight edge is not part of the boat but rather a metal ruler you hopully have in your tool box. here is a picutre of one: The troubleshooting you need to do takes a certain level of...

    Strange engine sound need help

A good metal ruler is a ‘straight edge’. If you hold the ruler at the ends, it can be bent one way but not the other, see mock up. The edge of the ruler is straight and provides a nice straight line you can use.

    Strange engine sound need help

With the engine running you may be able to see a wobbling pully (do not use the straight edge with it running!). If you do, that is it!

    Strange engine sound need help

There is a bad bearing or bent shaft somewhere in this train. While you can try a new belt, I suspect that it will ‘fill the void’ and not walk back and forth because it has not worn narrower yet. I.e., it may appear its fixed since do not see it walking back and forth. I assume you do not have...

    Strange engine sound need help

When you removed the belt and the noise disappeared, did you rotate any/all the pulleys by hand to see if the noise was associated with one of them? Not sure you can rotate the raw water pump by hand but if so, only do it in the direction of its normal rotation. Also, I suspect the belt looks...

Volvo penta 4.3 2006 fuel rail injector socket detached

There are boat ‘salvage yards’ that may be able to get you a used one. I looked on eBay as well and a too good to be true popped up for a 4.3, not sure it’s the proper fit but worth checking. Here is the link.

    Filling with fuel issue

Fuel gages can be inaccurate. Is this a new issue? Not sure how much need to tear apart but if a new issue, need to follow the hoses from end to end to make sure not newly crimped somehow and then go from there. One neat device I absolutely love is the vent hose whistle. This device is spliced...

Need help diagnosing temperature problem on Volvo Penta 5.0 GL-J

While some down at the docks have suggested its overkill, I have a check list that I follow prior to starting up. It includes things like checking all the fluids, belt tension, running the fan, trim down, etc. I had a friend overheat their 5.7 VP due to a loose flush cap. I added that to my list...

Diagnosing an issue - Question about IAC

I had similar issue with my 2005 5.0 GXi-E. Was kicking my butt including my marina’s mechanic who took it for a number of test runs all to no avail. My symptoms were more severe then you describe > it would mostly stall post throttling down quickly but otherwise the same. A separate - and at...

2004 Volvo Penta GXI 5.7 looses power at under load.

Also check the screen on the pressure regulator which is on the fuel rail. If you do determine it’s a lack of fuel pressure due to a crapped-up system you can get back on the water with an aftermarket fuel pump for about $150 and send off your VP pump to Troy (same guy as in the video). He does...

Automatic bilge pump brands using non-mechanical sensing?

Airshot, The newer type of auto pumps that turn on every few minutes is exactly what I am trying to avoid. I am not aware of a non-running current draw for the older type of Rule-Mate pumps that use some sort of reed switch devce (but frankly I do not know how they work). There is zero water...

Automatic bilge pump brands using non-mechanical sensing?

My Rule ‎750 Automatic Bilge Pump, Model RM750A, has failed and looking to replace. This pump is an automatic type using a ‘field effect’ sensor to detect water (supposedly will not auto turn on if 100% oil). Also has a manual On. Since they no longer make these, I need to retrofit but do not...
