    9.9 Evinrude

I agree. Cross winds can mess up experienced divers with several times that much power. Not that I'd recommend one, but I do see them.....

    Honda BF50a milky oil…did I buy a bad motor

Sorry, missed this note earlier. Safe bet the engine is mixing oil with water, and yes, the lower is due for a new set of seals. These are sort of a specialty of mine. MOST (95%) can be brought back with a new head gasket and some very careful cleanup of the head and block. Others will have a...

    Internal Anode removal tricks?

Second the impact driver.... And if you decide to go after the other side, you'll need to be VERY careful with the bolts holding the other side on. Don't be scared to warm up the area of the block the bolt screws into (not the cover) directly with a propane torch in the immediate area of a...

    Honda 50 Ticking/Whirly Sound

I'd say it's been hit for sure, but to make the noise you're messing with, I would think there would be MUCH more evidence very clearly visible. With the plugs removed, you should be able to feel this noise when turning the engine over by hand..... Maybe try that with and without the belt...

    Honda 50 Ticking/Whirly Sound

Throwing parts at an issue with no proof they are going to fix a thing is going to amount to a series of expensive lessons. A noise like you have should be EASILY seen when the flywheel is pulled -IF- that's actually where the noise is from. Then, I would not ASSUME all of the used flywheels...

    Honda 50 Ticking/Whirly Sound

Have you had this engine for a while and this noise just appeared all of a sudden, or is this a new purchase you are straightening out? Did it happen right after servicing like the one fellow wrote in about? Is the engine making the oil dirty quickly after a change, or is it remaining fairly...

    Honda BF90 Low Compression

Another thought, if this motor has been sitting awhile prior to all this, is a sticking valve. Don't see it often, but I've been into motors that have been sitting for 10 years that look terrible when the rocker cover has been removed, but amazingly enough it all cleans up really well. Others...

    Honda BF90 Low Compression

Metal shavings not real encouraging, but not sure they are relevant to our low compression? Wondering about stuck rings? Do you know the maintenance history of the motor going back quite a while? If it was operated with no thermostat for quite a while, the motor never gets hot enough to burn...

    Honda BF90 Low Compression

How do the valves look? When was the last time they were adjusted? Keeping in mind we're working on an older motor, and attempting to move forward, trying to minimize analysis paralysis - There's not a lot you can do about the cylinder height. Not economically anyway - I'd have a good look at...

    Texas Raiders B-17, P-63

My WAG. I used to be a pilot. When flying below the wing (a Cessna or Piper Cub for instance), it's nearly impossible to see above you. When flying above the wing, a plane immediately below you can be every bit as difficult to see. This fact is reinforced occasionally by light plane crashes very...

Is something wrong with the jack on my trailer?

Just another opinion of course, but that sounds like it's in need of lube here. That entire lower tube needs to be fully extended occasionally, and wiped down with a rag with 30wt oil on it - or whatever you prefer.

    20' Riviera Cruiser Speed Question

When talking pontoon boats, especially those used on inland lakes, IMHO, it's more run whatever you want to. There certainly nothing wrong with a 45 on a 20' boat. That's actually one of the more common setups you'll run across, even on 24' boats. As mentioned, you're fine.... I would mention...

    20' Riviera Cruiser Speed Question

Rapid trailer jerk at higher speeds

Just a shot in the dark, but is the bow of the boat firmly attached to the front of the trailer - as in there's NO chance of movement between the boat and the trailer?

BF45 Extension Case Grommet - Where Does It Go?

The grommet goes in the extension case! ;^) It's located up much higher than the area you're looking I think. That grommet will be the one holding/stabilizing the water pipe going up into the engine. I seriously doubt you're going to want to mess with it as getting to it is going to involve...
