Strip old carpet from pontoon deck

I did do one dockside, but the dock has power, was in the front yard, there's a sandy bottom below a couple feet of water, and I was in absolutely no hurry. Point being, it's possible to do a total re-deck in the water, but I'd rather be doing it somewhere warm and dry.....

Strip old carpet from pontoon deck

Well, the entire structure from the deck up is generally removed for a re-carpet job. I'd want good power available for starters, and a place to temporarily store a bunch of big parts for a few days....

    Would you buy a 98 merc 90hp 2-stroke?

4 stroke spoiled here too, but if my budget only allowed for a 2 stroke, I'd have no problem with this one....

Best method to drill out a broken off bolt

You can wrap electrical tape around the bit (or a center punch if so inclined) so it'll center in the hole. I start with a 1/8" bit - a nice sharp one. When drilling watch carefully for the bit to go through the bolt. There's an air space (3/16-1/4"?) you'll see/feel beyond the bolt. DO NOT...

    2003 90hp Mercury 4-Stroke Carburated

I think it's a pretty safe bet the issue is in the carbs. There's a little tiny idle fuel jet that plugs up very easily - the reason you need to ruin fuel conditioner if you aren't using motor daily. For winterizing, they really need to have the float bowls drained as part of that procedure...

    Honda BF30 Idle Speed?

I don't mean to be harsh, but have to wonder if this new, yet to be started motor came with an owners manual?

    Boat Disposal

Re: registering the trailer with no documents, look into registering as a "homebuilt". Inspections make it a bit of a hassle, but it's generally a pretty effective route to take.

EPA mixture screw covers 2003 BF50

Like it or not, it sounds like the carbs need to come off again, with particular attention paid to #2 carb. It should run, albeit maybe poorly, no matter what the setting is on the idle mixture screw. You should also know there's an o-ring on the idle mixture screw, and if this o-ring is...

    Upgrading from 70hp to 90hp

I wouldn't let the 70 get too far out of your sight until you see how that 16' boat looks in the water with a 330 lb 90 on it...... whether it's rated for it or not....

Honda BF50 bogs down, expert mechanic perplexed. What say you masters of mechanics?

The hard starting is often a sign that it's lean - especially when cold. They can be a bugger to keep running til warmed. A bog when accelerated is the same - a sign it's lean. This leaves me wondering about a few things. Like where are the idle mixture screws set, exactly (the "factory"...

Palm Beach bought by Premier Marine? Launching and recovering advice.

My advice would be to hit a boat ramp when you know it's not going to be busy. That should let you take your time (screw up) without backing up traffic. It's really no different than a ski boat. Easily single handed, but it's nice to have somebody there to give you a hand. Have it ready to go...

Honda bf50 oil looks like a latte!

Sailor, I've seen a hole in that same location several times. I generally just replace the block with a used block, or a used short block.

How do you guys mix Gas

Noteworthy maybe, is the difference in our outlooks here. My thought is it's being offered, not forced (unless you are a Ca resident). If you don't want it, if it's not able to get the job done to your satisfaction, don't buy it! There's no quinea pig here. This stuff has all been out/available...

2005 20ft sun chaser needs new carpet

Agreed, the old carpet needs to be removed, but I would install vinyl in it's place. And if your fence doesn't already have 1/2" spacers between it and the floor, I'd do that while I was at it....

How do you guys mix Gas

4 stroke haters are generally those that have no or very little experience with them. There's a pretty good reason they have pretty much taken over the outboard market. I doubt THAT many people are wrong....
