    12v Cell Signal Booster

A change in jobs has pushed me toward looking for a cell signal booster for our cabin in Ontario, Canada. We currently get a faint signal (one or two bars of LTE) which allows for text messaging and occasional data transmission (but very slow). I need to find something to boost the signal enough...

Ran boat out of water for ~2min but seems fine? Replace impeller?

I, unfortunately, I am in a similar situation. This Fourth of July, for the first time this year, I fired up the boat. As I always do, I ran it in the driveway on months before taking it to the river. in my case, I hooked up the hose, and when I opened the ball valve near the muffs, water came...

    Dust Cap Woes

If your dust caps, which don’t weigh very much, are flying off your hubs, I’d be concerned that bearing buddies, which are quite a bit heavier, will be even more prone to flying off unless you can get them to fit perfectly. They also are a bit pricey, so the cost of losing them would be...

    My boat is being a boat . . .

This boat is certainly giving your problem-solving and troubleshooting skills plenty of exercise! It is good you’re a resourceful guy! (y)(y)

    Fuel Tank Access

On my ‘97, I’m pretty sure the access screws were stainless steel. Aluminum would be too soft to screw into fiberglass stringers.

Trailer driving lights do not work, what I've done so far...

About the only good reason to unplug the trailer us if you have incandescent bulbs, which might pop from temperature shock. I’m guessing most trailers get pretty much of the time, and I don’t believe everything will dry out that quickly after having been dunked. I don’t know of anyone who...

    Transom leak near exhaust

Have you drill tested the transom around the keyhole from the inside? It sure sounds like a punky transom.

    Found rotten wood

That is pretty similar to how I discovered rot in my transom, except it was my ladder bolts that were loose. I ended up replacing the transom, most of the deck and all of the flotation foam. Luckily, my stringers were made of fiberglass, so they did not need to be replaced. If you click the link...

Tightening stripped screws in hatch lid hinge in fiberglass

You also could fill with epoxy, let it cure, and then drill and screw. I would never consider using drywall anchors.

    Tow rope to Talon bracket?

I think you are making the wise choice. Have fun pulling the kiddos! It’s one of my favorite boating activities.

    Tow rope to Talon bracket?

That bracket will destroy your tow rope in short order. And when it breaks, that metal hook will go flinging back toward the kids on the tube. Not a great solution, I'm afraid.

Smoked meatloaf (pork and beef always!) is even better if you wrap it in a lattice of bacon strips before smoking!

    Grady transom repair

I'm not sure I'd call pourable composite transom material 'snake oil' since SeaCast has been used successfully for quite some time, but I do agree that if the transom is termite-ridden, your stringers probably are, too.

    Bunk lag bolts

If you get good galvanized lag bolts (e.g., hot dipped), you should be OK. Avoid cheapo galvanized bolts. Or you can order stainless from McMaster-Carr: https://www.mcmaster.com/products/lag-screws/super-corrosion-resistant-316-stainless-steel-hex-head-screws-for-wood/
